Hi Michael,

My car is not proven, but it might be a goer for 2008? It will be run-in and mapped in Feburary but i'm not sure how many events I will be able to get to to prove it. I think I'll come along to spectate and chat anyway.

I personally think this is a good idea. I have been to several car shows over the years, and found that people don't speak to each other? I have tried speaking with people and unless I have a serious BO problem it seems no-one wants to talk to each other. I have tried introducing myself and mingling but to no avail.

A day out with MR2 people some of which don't know each other would be a good way to make a few mates. I personally have only two guys on this club I ever chat to, and i've never met one of them.

I'm all up for breaking down some barriers. There is undoubtably too much clique on this club IMHO. I travel to all shows with my two mates in a Pulsar and a GT4. They are unassuming and good mates. We even went to one show with a few guys from the GTiR-OC. I had a rattle on a bracket in my engine bay and when I popped it they came over and looked and we were chatting about stuff. The only guy to ever talk to me at a show is the guy with the white Airwalker when I parked next to him. I even lent him some meguirs metal polish to do his intake pipe and we had a chat.

MR2's not a club event is the way to go. Look at the Lancer register they basically claimed a club win and it all got pety with that guy who was goin round bragging. Lets have a simple name and an MR2 victory not a club victory......................

'Team 2' perhaps

C'mon the 2!

Not having a dig Michael, I am telling you how it looked from my perspective last year, you should use my criticisms to make it better for new entries this year. You like to give criticism, so learn to take it.

Look it's no skin off my nose, I don't care either way. I made a very big effort for TOTB last year for the club including organising the stand, arranging tickets and trying to not let the side down even when my car had problems, and all I've had for it are digs and stick, so forgive me if I give it back. (No I'm not whining or looking for sympathy, but even in this thread it's been thrown back at me as you've seen).

I've really no beef about who enters what, I would just want it to be fair. You know why I am saying that. Really, good luck.

I've drafted 4 replies to your message now and none of them seem to sum up what I want to say, your points are noted and your help last year appreciated (that's why I sat on a cold runway for hours waiting for you to arrive) - I'm sorry that there was a backlash from the IMOC members after the event but I can't control things like that. I had my own gripes too but life is too short to hold a grudge.

As I keep saying this is a new entry and a new year, the slate is clean and there is no bias, can we leave the history where it belongs and make this work now please? There doesn't need to be any hostility does there?

As Jimbob said i think this is definately the way to go if we want to show what the mr2 is cappable of and if we can get the clubs to work together or even just get a few new people involved then thats a good thing surely. My car has fallen behind the pack now so i wont really be competetive unless i can get a much bigger turbo before the date, but i will be at the strip with everyone else on the lead up and if there is any way i can help just ask.

If it's all fair and open then I'd support it. I admit I am harking back to some very surprising behaviour after last year's event that I witnessed (as were you in your original post), but I'm willing to set it aside and see how things develop.

If there's one thing I've learned from previously helping to run IMOC it's that you will always get criticism when you are running something. Sometimes bloodletting is good though. I look forward to a balanced and competitive team whosoever enters it, certainly no hostility intended, I've been at the receiving end of it and don't enjoy it myself.

Regards

That's very nice of you, can you drop it off tomorrow? Just sign the V5 and pop it through the letterbox with the keys.

:)

"Team MR2" - sounds fine to me, I just wasn't sure if the majority fancied something a bit more showbiz :)

I would imagine that something along those lines will be arranged this year too :)

A small update for those of you watching :)

There may be a chance for people interested in being in the team to take part in a TOTB demo at Japfest, basically a chance for the more track orientated drivers to get a free session to entertain the crowds and give them a taste of what they can expect at the event - if you are interested drop me a PM or an email.

In addition to the above the lovely TOTB organisers have arranged for Santa Pod to give potential TOTB entrants an hour of dedicated time at one of the events prior to TOTB - an ideal qualifier for us perhaps?

As expected we need to be in the 12's at the very least this year, there simply isn't room for anyone running less than this due to demand - ideally I want 10's and 11's though so aim for those when you are waving the credit cards around ;) Anyone planning to run 9's will need a cage and suit this year... well you never know :)

And finally.... noise limits will be in place, 103db static at 3/4 rpm (ish) so please be careful with this one. There may be some scope for a few db here and there but try to aim builds at being quiet if possible please, save the whales / trees / ears of people insane enough to expect silence next to an airfield

Lots of good cars lined up so far but keep them coming, don't be shy :thumleft:

christ! is this to find the ten best cars in the country or just 10 mediocre ones that fit in with random legislation?! ](*,)

next year it'll be TOTB - factory spec!

figures seemed distorted last year by shortening the V-max to a mile instead of 1.5, now sound limits, only argument is possible to make them more in line with roadworthy technicalities?

edit: forgot to add, is that three quarters of your rpm range, or 3 or 4 thousand rpm?

Just tell them your rev limiter is 8500 you should be just over the deepthunder and into signing at 3/4 revs then. Or tell them you have a conservative map limited to 5000rpm.
