[Mk2] [Turbo] Smoke on gearchange

Post by SWMark »

Hey guys

Having a little issue. Car is a 94 rev3 turbo, only mods are HKS filter, 3" system, Nitrous oxide and 1.1 Bar of boost. Car has done 48k miles and runs beautifully. Except, when driving very hard it emits a little faint puff of smoke when i change gear, on my maestro this was cracked ringlands, however it smoked at idle too, idled badly and had poor compression, the MR has 160 on all 4. Any idea what this could be, feels a bit shameful whooping a Mustang GT 6speed but smoking whilst doing it.

Thanks alot
Mark

I believe it to be the uncontrolled burn of overrun. Mines been smoking on track all year, doesn't make spanking 911s any less sweet though.

You'll probably find there's a fair few flames involved too :)

It would be good to get someone to follow you and tell you how much smoke comes out – although is quite hard to guage.

MR2s puff a bit of black smoke anyway, they are natrally rich anyway. Keep an eye on your oil levels. I think if there was major problems it would puff smoke all the time.

Or marshmallows.

(at your kind of boost yes, a new ECU would be a big aid.)

Here's a little story board of the only flame I got on video. Please note this one was hardly noticeable to the eye.

Note the smoke. This happened when changing gear. First a glow, then a puff of smoke, then 2 huge fireballs then nowt.
