Rev 2, 220bhp, early 1993. Rev 3, 245bhp, late 1993.

Check out the thread on events, John Noble Dyno day and look at some of the profiles to see what 300bhp takes!

Also knowledge base, engine, gives some good advice.

The late 1993 cars, known as Rev 3's got the revised handling. You can easily tell them by the one piece spoiler, opposed to the wrap around 3 piece spoiler on earlier Rev 1 & 2 cars.

As for performance, there's a marginal increasein bh/p (well, 10%) but torque is very similar.

Some would say however that with a stock Rev3 is a much better place to start from when seeking big power increases (metal head gasket, larger injectors, MAP not AFM sensor)

But others would say this is complete toilet. There's better minds on here who can discuss it at leisure.

But big restrictions like intercooling and exhaust are the same for both cars, and simple mods like free flowair filter, exhaust, de-cat and a mild boost increase will get you very near 300bh/p without needing internal work done (I did say mild though)

Personally I'd get the best example of MR2 turbo you can afford - service history and regular oil changes are, as ever the thing to look for.

Note, around 1995 the law changed so imported tubbies had to have a catalytic converter to get an MOT. Before this date, you can get away with a decat pipe. Seeing as you're after power this might be useful to know..?

It's because pre '95 the MOT does not have an emmissions chart for them.
2 ways of getting around this..

1. DONT gut the cat - buy a downpipe instead - keep the cat for putting back on come MOT time.

or 2. as above but have a friendly MOT'ist  that will pass it for you with downpipe on (catless)... aslong as you have in your possesion the original downpipe with cat.

:-$

It was November I think. Have a look at this engine bay.

http://mr2.noegruts.com/engine/engine.htm

This is a rev 2 it has an Air Flow meter on the top of the air intake. Top left hand corner. Rev 3s dont have these.
