If your computer is off it will not be able to store the RSS feeds locally.
As a result, when you come to switch it on it will only be able to download the RSS feeds available on the
'net on each particular website.
Now, I didn't even know we had an RSS feed on this site
(admittedly I didn't look very hard, but I'm interested now!) so I can't look at it to see the length, but if you're computer just shows you what's available, it will just show you the feeds being broadcast.
On the RSS software for forums you set the number of threads you want to limit the feed to.
As I said, I don't know what length that is on this forum.
On another forum
(for which I coded an RSS reader widget for Konfabulator and a couple of other apps) the RSS feeds was set to 25.
What this meant was that when you fired up your computer and connected, it showed you the 25 most recently posted posts, regardless of the threads/subject areas.
This was something I had no control over, and as that forum was very busy
(somewhat more so than IMOC) it was likely that every 10 minutes there would be 25 completely different posts than earlier.

I hope this kind of makes sense as it explains why you're only seeing the most recent posts here
- essentially it's because RSS feeds will only transmit the most recently posted posts, and not every post that's been posted in a day.
That would simply be too much data to transmit on an RSS feed, and it's unlikely that many people would use it
(for example, those people who do come on during the day may only be interested in the 10 most recent posts due to time constraints or something, particularly as many are in the same threads).
