MR2 Run to New Forest (replaces June Brighton Run)

Post by Grendel »

There will be weekend event on 9th-10th June to the New Forest, which replaces the MR2 Run to Brighton. This is being joint organised by Alan Cayzer (South East Mk1 Club) but being a weekend the main question is do people want to camp or hotel for the Saturday night?

Moved this to the events page :thumleft:

Personally i like camping rather than hotel, as long as there are good facilities nearby, as this keeps the cost down etc.

possibly we could camp and go out for a meal if people don't want to rough it too much, but camping is always good for a party and a fun atmosphere.

Quote from Alans E-mail:

We are thinking the run would probably start at the Pease Pottage Services on the M23. Then onto the M25 to junction 10, onto A3 and A31 joining the M3 at Winchester. From there we would get onto the M27 for the New Forest

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! A272 to Winchester and then M3 for 1 Junction back onto the A roads to Romsey then into the forest! Has to be done that way or I'll fall asleep behind the wheel (even in the Celica).

Im at ease with nature, go with the camping, dont even need a tent at that time of year, just a sleeping bag & blow up bed will do

My parents live near Winchester... but be warned - the roads get clogged towards Bournemouth on nice weekends... so avoid getting too close to Bournemouth on the M27. Also avoid the M3 near to where the M27 joins it ;)

How about a log cabin or something as a camping/hotel compromise?

Better yet, just avoid all motorways full stop [-X

MR2's are for driving on twisty roads, A272 is a fabulous run and such a blindingly obvious alternative. It must be possible to plan a route that is worth looking foward to.

I wouldn't bother meeting at Pease Pottage if everyone is just going to head for the motorway.

M23, M25 and A3 are some of the most boring roads in the UK in my opinion. a272 is a good option, you can still start at the pease pottage services.

I think the master plan was for a day at Beaulieu.

Couldn't agree more. The 272 is the one I'd go for. Could do a few re grouping stops enroute.

Hi Limey, i'm sure Alan would like some ideas of a better route.
Alan and the other Mk1 club Se area organisers don't know the area very well, so any suggestions for a better route, will be much appreciated!
If you can come up with a map and stopping areas, we will take them on board.
I also like the twisty roads, much more fun than being stuck on motorways for miles :D
Either put the details on here or pm me and i will pass on the details to Alan.
Cheers for any help you can give us.
Steve..
