Cheers DoM - I'm trying to find the number for the Hotel at Hole Acht - its a bit closer than the place with the MrT garage, and I think the prices were roughly similar ..

Cool, I think it's definately preferable to be somewhere with a bit more life than that place, it was a little dead!! There isn't exactly a shortage of hotels in the area, so I'm sure there will be somewhere with space!

I quite like the idea of camping, wonder if any of the others would be up for it? (Mark and I are serial campers)

Seriously, camping there isn't great. I've done it before, its quite pricey - I can remember that camping there for 3 nights, getting breakfast and the fact you've also got to pay the full day for the day you leave means that its no cheaper than staying in a hotel.

Hotels are already fairly well booked up in that area, so it looks like we may have to stay a little way away. Just means we've got to organise who is driving and who is drinking in the evenings a little more carefully ;)

A mate's going over in his 350Z this weekend. Can anyone recommend anywhere that will provide car insurance on the track? His insurance for recovery around Europe specifically rules out the ring.

Insurance - an interesting one. Basically the 'ring is a scenic one way toll road through the Eiffel countryside. As such, all the normal German road traffic rules apply. Your normal UK car insurance should cover you driving there as it is a 'normal' (although one way) toll road - this is part of the attraction of the place.

I have heard though that some Recovery companies can be awkward about recovering damaged / broken down cars back to the UK - I know someone who got a hard time from the AA after his Caterham swallowed a bolt from the intake (nasty) - and he hadn't even been in an accident (!)

Remeber though, the ring is a fun place, but IMHO isn't somewhere to push right to the very limit.

I really enjoy driving it at 8/10ths, and as a rule of thump don't get the car out of shape at all.

In comparision, I'll be pushing it 10/10ths at UK tracks like Anglesey as there is lots of run-off and so no problem if you come off the black stuff..

Alan,

Ta for the info on the Campsite.

I've been in touch with a number of hotels, and ones local to the circuit in Nurburg and Adenau are already booked up.

I'm waiting for two to get back to me, and I have also found a guesthouse about 20 minutes drive away that has three rooms with three single beds - I'll keep that back as a last resort.

You'd expect that, wouldn't you :) His European recovery insurance has explicitly ruled out the Ring by name though. Saying he's had an accident round the Nördschleife might get him past. Better safe than sorry though :-)

He's managed to get explicit insurance that'll cover damage to the car, recovery to the UK etc but it hasn't been cheap and doesn't cover track damage. On the other hand it means one less thing to worry about when he suddenly realises he's doing 150 :-)

Ben Lovejoy's site at http://www.nurburgring.org/insurance.html gave me some pointers. Worth reading in full, but it mentions the following:

A number of companies now exclude 'de-restricted toll roads'. Although they don't name the Nurburgring, it's hard to think what else this could mean. At the time of writing, these companies are Direct Line, Privilege, Egg, Tesco and Barclaycard.

Count me in! Just returned from the Toyota Owners Club run to the Ring at 13.00 this afternoon. Absolutely amazing time!!!

For a cheap place to stay, we stayed in an Ibis hotel in Koblenz, 20 minutes to half an hour away from the Ring, fantastic hotel, underground secure parking, £60.00 for the 3 nights/ per room.

also for anyone from the North going, Some of us travelled from Hull to Zebrugge, £120 I think return. Approx.

But as I said, definately count me in, I have 2 spare laps still to do! :D

Cheers,

Michael.

Nice one :) Sounds like there was a big group of you out there - I heard that you'd also got access to the F1 part of the circuit too - is that right?

Hope the weather was OK though - I've seen some scary footage of cars spinning at Brunnchen in the wet - hope you had some nice dry days too!

Sounds good - actually, you've reminded me to also remember to try some of the other large chains of hotels that are near there ..

Heh heh - nice one :)

yeah, they opened the F1 circuit on the 25th, the second day. It was the first time in 5 years it had been open to the public.....AWESOME! It was some feeling flooring it through the grandstand.

There are a few larger chain hotels in Koblenz, never ventured into Nurburg town so can't comment on that.

Weather was great overall, 2 or 3 downpours that lasted 5 mins kept the track wet for half of the Friday, but later in the day and Saturday it was amazing weather, really warm.

Hmm... you lucky sod.. cant believe your going back already!! [-( no fair!..

We had a wicked time.. and there was about 15 in our group and all of us returned home with no scraps or bumps which is a blessing considering i saw at least 15 crashed cars/bikes on my 6 laps that i did!

Also... for most of us.. this was our 1st ever track day!!!! LMAO.. what a day it was as well!..

3 of us MR2T lads spun out inc me.. but none of us hit anything.. my spin occured on the F1 track when it was raining as i knew there was loads of space to mess up so i started pushing it on a wide bend.. ended up drifting the car for a bit then the car did a 180.. lol

It was cool..

You guys are going to have a great time!.. im defo going back next year..

I also have a full lap on my camera which was taken from a Porsche GT3 which followed me round the full ciscuit inc the F1 GP section!...

Cant wait to upload that vid!

Here is a link to a pic of my car on track which was taken by some german dude..

Hey Mr Komp,

Yeah, would ceratinly be great to meet up with some German MR2 Owners - are there any clubs you know of who'd be interested in meeting us there?

We're planning currently to be there arriving late on the 8th July, and drive back to teh UK on the 11th - if you wanted to meet us one day whilst we're there, and perhaps join us one evening that would be great.
