Holy crap... nearly a grand to insure a mk1????

Try the usual suspects:
Adrian Flux
Performance Direct
Elephant / Admiral / Bell (same parent company but will quote different between the departments)
Tesco
Liverpool and Victoria
Norwich Union

Try:

http://www.confused.com

put in your details and it will find you the top 20 competitive quotes. Saved me hours and quite a bit of money. I insured my Mk1 this way, went with More than in the end.

These guys gave me a great quote

You'll have to supply photos etc but there premiums are very good.

I actually ended going with Admiral. They were a bit dearer but it was slightly less hastle (very lazy  )

As someone else said, Bell Direct are usually quite competitive.

£298.00 F/C from Tescos.

£263.00 F/C from Elephant.

I do have the advantage of my age (33), full NCB (6years) and 15 years driving with no points.

I'll probably start looking into classic insurance soon though.

A lot of it also has to do with the type of work you do and the area you stay in.

My premiums dropped by over £90 when I "retired" from the live music industry. then they dropped a further £150.00 when I moved to Northampton from Birmingham.

Agree with Speedy, Houghtons are great. I'm paying £340 p/a with unlimited milage and a fair few mods! (6yrs NCD :D and 5 points #-o )

They are rather old fashioned though as they haven't got round to direct debits yet!

I'd be the first to agree that while Houghtons are pretty good (they actually return phone calls etc), they are a little bit like an old fashioned brokers, where they have to go and call somebody else and get back to you :)

Hi Rob,

Give Privilege a go on their website http://www.privilege.co.uk/

I paid just over £330 with only 1 years NCD (thats with a 10% discount for taking it out online)

Surprisingly it was cheaper if I insured my wife as a named driver rather than just me! Not that she ever drives it cant live without power steering lol.

I'm seriously considering getting my own traders policy with the amount of cars I have.... I do help my dad out at times, so in theory it should be possible... but when the mk1 is put on the road and I finish the kit car, and when I decide to run the Escort as a road car it means 4 x insurance... all 4 being pretty special motors :?

Can a mk1 be insured on classic insurance?
I want a mk1 but though everday classic insurance would be ideal.
Is this possible? :?

Houghtons do it on a classic type policy. Call them, see what they will quote you.
