Someone help me out with my wiper blades!!

Post by Rev2_mike »

I know this is going to sound stupid but, here goes! Well i need new wipers for the G-ltd and (this is becoming to sound all too familiar now!) i thought this would be no problem so went to the local halfords and picked up some bosch wiper blades - hmm my wipers have a strange 2 screw thing going on and not the clip in type of wipers, bu88er - surely not having to go to Mr T and end up paying a hundred quid or something absurd whilst they say "well it IS an import sir, and thats why those wipers are so expensive". Where else can i get some????

On a related note i've just remembered just how utterly utterly dire Cardiff Toyota is when i tried to get a quote for my cam belt - AVOID THESE PEOPLE they are so god damn patronising and really dont give A DAMN!!!! Its not just the stupid prices its the f**cking awful customer service. So i really dont want to have to give them any more of my money - and i dont think any of you lot should either. Rant over :D

I got some halford own brand for mine a while back (91 gltd).
Had exactly the same problem with the bosch.
The own brand seem to do the job, but there only slightly cheaper.

I am picking up new rubbers from toyota tomorrow for my UK mk1, costing about 6 quid. I'll use the old ones to match up cheaper replacements for next time.

So you guys with G-ltds (and presumably GT's) have you got some sort of screw fit wiper blades? Do the halfords ones fit then?

Guys!! Why don't you do it the easy way?

Buy replacement blades ie just the rubber and slide it into the stock wiper blade arm. Takes a couple of mins and is dead easy.

There isn't one. It can be an ickle bit fiddly the first time you do it, but thereafter it's fine.

Right, well one reason for changing the whole blade is after a decade it can start to look cr#p! If you want to do this then forget Bosch or Halfords find a Champion stockist. Champion blades can be adapted to fit Import Mr’s 2 screw fitting with a handy little kit that costs about £1.50. Did mine last week and they now look much better and actually remove water from the screen.

Or just take your existing ones off and clean them up and spray them. Sorted!

The champion blades and adaptor shouldn't take more than a few minutes to fit and shouldn't cost any more than a set of Bosch. They tend to be stocked by smaller high street car shops - who also tend to be the most helpful!

cant for the life of me remember the adaptors code, but I think the book of wiper codes includes the adaptor.

Cardiff Toyota, are rubbish; totally unhelpful. Newport Toyota are much better.
If you go to Toyota, they list 15 types of wiper just for the SW20! Most of the writing was in Japanese on the diagrams, I ordered a new drivers wiper from Newport toyota, and it was 25 quid, that was when I had the '91 n/a with the 2 screw affair you mention ](*,)

Just get the actual blade from toyota if you must. I used to do this wasn't cheap at £9 but they just cut it to length.

Typical, my wiper blade has just decided this morning to start falling apart - got 2 years good use from it though :)

Popped along to Halfrauds, what a surprise, they had NONE in stock whatsoever. Last time I was after some gearbox oil I tried three seperate branches of Halfords and none of them had any in
