"Disagree wheel style more so than diameter dictate chav'ness."

- I don't know, one trip to barryboys and glassfibre aside, the crucifixtion
of a nova usually occurs by the size of the wheels : most go oversize on wheels (and exhaust pipe) a subtle oversizing is okay (maybe an inch), but then, without starting another size ruins handling thread, weight matters most.

Again its the old debate of "looks" Vs "driveability"

I have a set of 16s 7J on normally, but just put those AZEV 17s 8J to see how the car sat.

Have to admit i am leaning towards the "look" of the car at the moment! =P~

But actually have not driven with them on,as the front rubs + i got no brakes. Would image there would be a bit of a difference though!

I understand your point of view, but feel its a bit unfair to generalise chavy behaviour - a mk1 mr2 with oversized rims is a long way from a nasty pimped out nova

Did you know your number plate is illegal?

Silver on black is only allowed pre-73.

They are a bu88er to clean though - my old Calibra Turbo LE had them ( BBS RX ) as std.

I picked up this set of Borbet wheels quite cheaply, five wheels including A/539's, locking nuts and shorter wheelnuts for a shade over £500. Very happy with the looks. I think 5 spokes really suit the mk1, particularly on the paler colours. These are a doddle to clean too and weigh less than the original 14" wheels and tyres despite being bigger 15".

On a dark blue one though having seen Jinxy's BBS's I'd have to say that takes some beating.

Looks really good Tony, I think you got the balance right there and haven't fallen into the trap of trying to put a modern design of wheels on an 80s car. The wheels look very much in keeping with the era of the car.

Thanks Lauren i really appreciate that, i must admit there isnt a lot of alloys around these days that i like the look of, these new ones im refurbing are dated 1989 which is the year of my MK1 anyway & the others were 1987, so their from around the same period hence they look very similar which is what i wanted.
Im sure there is a ready market for period/retro alloys but no one seems to market them which is a real shame. Ive still got 2 to do & each one takes me about 10 days to finish & with a train driving course in Doncaster looming ever closer ( im going to be away from home for 17 weeks !! only coming home at weekends   ) the rest arnt going to be finished until the end of winter :( which probably isnt a bad thing as i would only want to put them on the car asap which means snow & salt ! they will be ready for JAE though 8) , cheers, Jinxy

I thnk there once was a fiat 500 without a roof and wicker seats, worth a consideration, just fit an open floorpan and wicker seats, leave the damn panels off and wear a dry suit when you drive.....

are you gonna lower the car a little to reduce the wheel/arch gap?

I thought so too - do they have less spokes than before? (hope so - means less cleaning :) )

Cheers Phil / Huw, yep these are 15 point & the others were 20 point, but the offset is much smaller on these that the other ones so they dont look kinda odd in the arches like the other ones used to, cleaning these will be much easier as the others were a nightmare, but ive had quite a few people tell me they actually prefer these ones to the last ones, so im at least doing something right :thumleft: , Jinxy
