[Mk2] [Turbo] Keep Rev1 or Buy Rev3????

Post by skipp123 »

hi guys seriously considering selling my beloved rev1 tubby tbar, reason is....... im after around 300bhp and my rev1 will need bug money spent on it to get that figure would you guys if u were in my position just sell the rev1 and buy a rev3 tubby? am i right in thinking i could just turn the boost up on a rev 3 and stick a power fc on her to get a propper map and jobs a good un...

i was going to get the following to the rev1

540s
ct20b
intercooler
power fc
full exhaust
downpipe
filter
colder leads
1.1 bar

seems alot of money to spend when i could probbably find a nice rev3 with exhaust filter and colder plugs and the rev3 comes with the ct20b 540s ect

was going to put my tubby up for £3300 and get a nice rev3 for £4500 so £1200 differance

:D Aye Rev 3 is the way forward my son. Loads of nice tasty additions on Rev 3 over the one including slippy diff, stronger head gasket, bigger turbo, better handling etc etc.

300 bhp on rev 3 a doddle as you say with simple upgrade of Apexi FC commander, boost actuator valve, de-cat and upgraded intercooler. 350 bhp is no probs whatsoever. :thumleft:

Depends on if you'll be happy with 300bhp.

I made 310 with the hybrid and the chargecooler running 1.2bar on an otherwise stock engine and a stock ecu. absolutely no need to change to a rev3 just to get to 300bhp.

my rev 1 has lsd box anyway and the rev 1/3 shiz is just that.
the rev 3 makes more power for a few reasons but if your goal is simply 300 then a rev3 conversion should see you happy.

Oh .......... have you actually EVER been in a genuine 300hp mr2?

before mapping my rev 1 punched 289.4 hp(fwhp..corrected est) at 11psi if you see my 1/4 time on the table its none too shabby either!

I ,for a time, felt the same as you - to be honest a lot of rev 1 owners fel that way when we read the rev 3 supremacy booolahh!- however i think if you are happy with your car and its a good car then why change it for a prospective dog mobile just cause its a rev3???

BTW the fastest and quickest ET mr2's on earth are rev1's !!

i love my rev 1 and i would only change it fo something like juliankv's rev5 because its ferrari beatiful! or a z4/z3m(love the m3 motor in a gocart chassis).

seriously if you like it keep it and do the necessary.

if i can help feel free to pm

the only thing stopping 300rwhp with your list is the turbo. get a TD06 slapped on from mr gidden they are awesome.

i think marks engine pack may have already gone, if not then it would be a fantastic thing to go for - he should still reshell tho imho.

YES PETER nobby the bull would sway me very definitely - probably would have been looking for one had recent events not taken place, ah well thats life.

well considering the fact dude you said, rev3 ecu conversion, 540s, i asumed you was talking about a rev1 ](*,) ](*,) ...you never said rev3......in that post i quoted.

and rev3, i suppose very close....not seen it done tho....

differance is £2635 without fitting.. and the arsewhole of doing the rev 3 conversion and fitting all the bits turbo, injectors ect...

sell my rev1 for £3300 buy a sweet rev3 with a few mods for £5000 so differance of £1700 and a newer car lower milage ect and all the goodies i want on the rev1

well your gargae says you already have boost controller, exhaust, filter.....

all you need it turbo, downpipe....can be done same time....
injectors....maybe not diy, depends...

rev3 ecu swap is diy....as are the other rev3 bits you need.....ait/mat and map are direct replacements..diy.....

PS, with a rev3 youd still need to spend 1k! of that getting a FC and mapped anyway!!!

so for the sake of putting a few parts on, your prepared for the hard task of trying to sell a car for the price you want, which could take ages, then possibly travel 100s of miles to find a nice rev3, and whos to say the car is going to be as reliable as your old one....
i had this same debate during the summer.....fact is my car hadnt let me down ever, except battery, and i use it every day of the year...plus i had spent a bit to! doh! lol.....

the other car, im pretty sure it just means, strap on a larger turbo and youll get more from it as it has had internal work done and can handle it basically.
