[Mk2] [Turbo] gear stuck & linkage please help me !!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by simo2004 »

hello boys and girls was wondering if some1 could help me here
try to make this as short as possible!!!

i reversed into work this morning 1st time (makes a change)lol

i went to put it in neutral but it was stuck in reverse the gear stick was solid it just dint move. i tried pumping the clutch turning the ignition on and off tried rolling back a few times but it still wouldn't budge.
to make things worse i snapped one of the cables on the gear linkage trying to force it a little. i have to questions one what would cause it to jam and how do i get it out of reverse and fix it. the second is how much will the gear linkage cost me and is it hard to fit?

i was told the gear linkage was in one part but i found a picture shown on the link below and the cable doesn't look long enough to be in on part im hoping it is in two parts so i can just swap it over

you can pull it out of gear manually

where you see the 2 pins on the left of the boxx in the above pic, you can pull it out of gear with them. swapping the cable shouldn't be too hard either

yeah those are the pins I mean. One of them is the left/right movement of the stick, the other is the in/out movement. Depending what cable is snapped, you might be able to have 3rd and 4th gear if its the left/right movement cable thats snapped. I have a feeling its the other one though. Either way, you could still put it in gear manually, and start it with the clutch in, and drive it home that way.

I recently had to do this in my astra as I snapped the gear linkage rod.

Gear Linkage

Post by kieran_sly »

I got mine from rogue systems about £55. Very easy to fit, just be careful when ur pulling out the split pins that hold the linkage to the gearbox pins, they are easy to lose! check out the guide from the knowledge base http://www.roguesystems.co.uk/static/home.aspx
