I have thought about exactly what i want the car for, im not into track driving to be honest, im going for straight line speed, i have planned out most of what im aiming to do to the car, full tein suspension set up as my jic are a bit old, hi spec brake kits when they have sorted out the rear kits. And these are first on the list, no point being able to go fast if you cant stop fast.

Going large boot mounted intercooler, ross induction manifold, link ecu, large injectors or maybe an 8 injector setup, greddy t78 turbo kit or similar, and all other stuff that goes along with it. I do realise that you cant just slap a stroker kit in and expect the world. And i do realise it going to cost a very large sum of money, i just want to sort what to do with the bottom end, using the pistons i have bought.

Good stuff! :thumleft:

You might be interested to know that we had a visit yesterday from Tein's main man in the UK and as a result we should be making a return visit to Tein in the new year specifically to develop a drag racing setup for the MR2. This will most likely consist of revalving / springing a flex or monoflex kit. Give me a shout if you're interested in being involved with that.

Also I think we generally do drive our cars harder here, Nissan sold 50 or so official R34 Skyline V-Spec's in this country and they added oil coolers on the diffs and a few other bits and bobs as we drive our cars much harder in there opinion, they probably know better than any of us!

That's nothing new ... just look at all the extra stuff on UK supras.

Lol ... Could it not just be that the majority of skylines sold in japan would never go above 112mph?? Where over here they have to make the car reliable to 160mph
Small turbos - they're not big and they're not clever!

Just say NO to small turbos!

I woud be interested in that patrick, it was the type flex i was wanting with the EDFC, and i was going to get them from you in the new year. Also was wondering abut the control arms from tein, how much are they?

I'll be looking to change all my Suspension around March/April next year so this is something i will be after as i'll be useing my tubby daily but draging at the weekends. Will it be a drag only setup or one that will work for street and drag with settings altered via EDFC ect?

Most people who take part in competition do trailer their cars – probably as they want to get home after they have smashed it up or blown the engine. Also many cars in competition are not road legal hence the trailer? :-k

No wonder the majority of high BHP cars that come into this country are junk :eye:

That means nothing though; [-X for those 200 road miles it wouldn’t have been making 700bhp would it? So hardly a testament to the reliability of the engine. For those 200 miles the car would have likely sat at 60mph and essentially making something like 100bhp. Just because an engine is 700bhp capable doesn’t mean it’s always making 700bhp. :thumleft:

Full throttle mappage occured on the way :thumleft:

Just to add, jap cars although listed as road going etc. Are barely used as such.

I know of a skyline recently imported. Had low 9 sec 1/4 mile times. Stripped block just recently and it's all standard in there apart from the cams. Companies will do this to make the numbers cheaply, do one or two runs get the publicity and then ship the car off. Common as muck over there. So it stands to reason these 1000hp road going cars are not really driven on the roads apart from promotional work etc. Not saying that a 1000hp car inst streetable. I knew of one skyline that certainly was

Didnt see this thread go this far.

With reguards to blocks cracking, I was the person who conducted the survey on the american board so I am familiar with the rev 1/2 block cracking, but you must also remember that the americans only recieved the rev 1/2 blocks and rev 3 are rare over there and the states is a big place.

It does appear that any block can crack, even those with sleeves, I was making the points with regaurds to going 87mm bore, I seriously think its a problem which is more to do with high powered cars with very tight tuning where its maybe been taken a little further than most of us would safely stay.

There are indeed, a hell of alot of 400-500whp 3sgte engines around, if your block is going to crack then its probably going to happen no matter what, its luck of the draw, my last engine was a thin walled rev 3 and was fine. Its a very odd subject with no true solid facts or figures I have to agree. You might spin a rod bearing or detonate long before the block would crack.

Luck of the draw high powered tuning is. That im sure we can all agree on

hmm...this has an interest to me, my rev3 engine is supposed to be going away over the xmas period to have anything thats worn out replaced and a set of JE pistons and an HKS HG fitted.

I'm doing this because i'd prefer to know the internals were safe, i plan to run a safe and reliable 350ish HP, doing this i'm also going for a bigger turbo, so i don't have to run huge boost and still have the potential to run more without it going pop in the first 10 second, this cracking block thing has me worried lol. Perhaps i should be thinking about having it sleeved?
