Oil Pressure Gauge

I'd like to fit an oil pressure gauge to my rev3 3sge car - wheres the best place to fit the sender?

I found this sandwich plate on ebay but is there a suitable take off on the block (and is it easy to get too )?

Also If anybody could suggest a supplier/manufacture of gauge and where people have mounted additional gauges on the dash (as i'd prefer a factory look) that'd be great.

your best bet (if you have a single din radio) is to get a din sized mount (up to 3 guages)

u could squeeze one more by getting a 45mm(IIRC-see groups buys now) sized boost guage and fitting it in place of the standard

IMHO the best place to fit the pressure sensor/take off, is where the OE sensor is.

From the back of the car, left hand side of the cylinder head, forwards of the dizzy.

My reason is, this is the highest place in the oil circuit, so this is where pressure is most critical.

The sandwhich plate fits between the standard oil filter and the block, pretty easy to get to.

As for mounting the gauge, HSR (don't even know if they still trade?) used to do a replacement A pillar trim with 2 gauge pods moulded in. Fantastic looking bit of kit, that replicated the OEM trim down to a T. If they're still trading, perhaps they do one for an MR2?

Do we have anyone who has used the above sandwich plate?
Am i right in thinking all you do is un-screw the oil filter, fit the plate, fit new oil filter. Also both temp and pressure can plug onto the plate?

Sounds too easy to be true.

Is this the best place to be collecting this data.

Yup thats about it. Im gonna take Slarty's advice and mount it where the oe sender is, and I like the idea of fitting it in one of the stereo din slots aswell - i'll post a picture when it fitted.

These guyts sell very good DIn guage pods. i have one fittted myself. Go to guages/pods section, then pan down to near the bottom..........

"1/8th NPT" T-piece. About £5 from Demon Tweeks.

close. The stock toyota thread is 1/8BSP. The sender will be 1/8NPT. Its a close fit, 27TPI compared to 28TPI, but really you want to make sure its the right one. Also, you will probaly find that a T-piece doesn't give you enough room to fit both senders.

I've using some -3 braided line I have left over from my clutch kit, with a few BSP & NPT fittings and adapters to move the gauge sender away from the head. All will become clear when you try and fit them.

Are we saying its best to fit them in the stock sender position then use this device.

I have a defi one din unit with 3 gauges all built in, looks very stock defi tricks.

Anywhere on the engine will get a pressure reading, but there is obviously a reason why Toyota stuck the sensor where it is. As mentioned above,

I had a sandwich plate on my 2 for about 3 weeks. Now I use a tee I got from a local "bits and bobs" shop. The sandwich plate caused more of an oil leak than the Exxon Valdez. If you are on a rev 1 or 2 then the oil filter is on top of an oil cooler plate thing that Toyota fitted. SO you will have the block, an o ring, the cooler, an o ring, the sandwich plate, an o ring, the filter. Way too hard to ensure that there is no leaks IMO.
