I can't believe users are still expected to do this on an individual basis

Most forums use a central time setting and then allow users to select a time offset so that they can set things up to reflect their local time (if the forum is hosted elsewhere).

Then when the clocks change the admin changes the settings once and this adjusts it for everyone - basic stuff but after going on about it since the pink forum started I've realised nobody in charge can be ar$ed to sort this - like most things really.

Michael,

If you feel you can come up with a better template/colour design for the site, please feel free. I will grant you write access to the template SVN path. We will grant you access to host it on the test site to help develop it. If you are interested please send me a PM.

As for the time system, its the type of thing you only remember about when the DST changes happen. Remember we have people viewing the site from other locations where DST happens at different times...so in reality it is not as simple as you make out if you are to do it right.

Is the site capable of allowing users a choice of themes?

If so why not run up a quick thread and ask members to choose a top 3 schemes - if you let me loose it will just end up being grey, hardly the most appealing choice but one that I like personally as you may have seen on my own forum.

It might be nice to have traditional pink, work friendly and a couple of others.

Happy to have a play around if you like.

Yes the site is capable of allowing mutliple styles.

We have been working to get a tool working that allows mutliple people to work together on the same files without overwritting each others changes..which is 100% needed to all the development of the site be opened to more people. No good if you made a change and then someonelse overwrote your hours of work with a upload.

You will need to be able to work with the templating system from phpBB. I can offer some help if needed. You will need to be able to work with SVN (the tool mentioned above) again I can help. If the styles gets to a complete stage and is moved to the live site..you would be expected to keep it upto date with any changes required i.e all styles have to stay in sync. So for example when we add new features they must be available in all styles. Again SVN will help you with this by offering diff's and checkin info.

So if anyone would like to proceed then let me know and I will setup the access required.

Balls to that, sounds like bad planning at the early stages, I'm not interested in bodges at a later date.

I'll stick with vbb and it's common sense approach to these things I think - long live the pink.

If you think using a source code revision control system such as subversion is a bodge it shows how little you know about good development practices. It has nothing to do with which forum software you use. More to do with how many people are working on the same code. We would be using it if we had vbb.

SVN IS the common sense approach.

From wikipedia -> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revision_control

Software tools for revision control are increasingly recognized as being necessary for almost all software development projects.

I see this as shut up or put up. You complain but are not willing to help...so in the future do not bother with this constant putting down of the development work that you do not see or seem to even understand.

I did not know it was a win or lose situation. I offered you the access to develop a template. I offered help with the two bits you might not have been familar with.

You on the other hand as normal just seem to want to b1tch and moan.
