buying advice---93-96 turbo's

Post by alfaandy »

hi
this is my first thread....basically looking to buy an MR2 GT-s turbo within the next month or so. ...Been doing lots of research and stuff but thought it best to ask the experts what u guys think are the main points to look out for when purchasing one.

The cars that are in my price range bascially have between 50-120 thousand miles genrally in excellent condition some with expensive modifications to exhaust, intercoolers etc etc..basically i need to know what goes wrong on them...what weaknesses and possible expensive pit fulls.

thanks alot :D

Hi mate,

I am in the same boat, been looking for a few weeks now for a 92-94 black gt turbo. Not had a deal of luck. Believe me there are some bad cars about! so be careful. Check out this link:

http://www.btinternet.com/~netsurf/mr2t/mr2tfaq.html

This is a good start.

If you can find a car that has been owned by an enthusiast, that would be your best bet, otherwise follow the import route, which is the way I am now going. Imported cars are usually in better shape/lower mileage etc...but can be a tad more expensive.

STAY AWAY FROM E BAY!! Well, its up to you, but every car I have viewed on E bay has been described as great/immaculate etc etc.... However, the reality is often a different story!

Make sure that you dont buy a car blind, allways check it over using the knowledge you gained from the above link, and if you don't have any mechanical knowledge, take someone with you that has!

Anyway, hope this helps, and good luck with your search.
