A perfect day @ Perfect touch..now with dyno + pics

Post by Century Motorsport »

Well what can i say!! Some of you will be familiar with my setup some wont. I have spent countless weeks putting time and effort into this setup and its finally paid off with the help of the boys (esp Rob) @ Perfect Touch.

When i got there i met Rob and Claudio - what a nice pair of guys, very approachable and both seem very enthusiastic about their job! Anyway, Rob asked me what i would like out of my setup...... and without dis iluding myself i stayed realistic and said anything 400 is good. So off Rob went and about 30-40mins later he came back and said 'do you want me to stop at 400 or keep going?!?!?' That was @ 1.3bar and ofcourse i said keep going.... 450 would be lurvely!! So again off he went and when he came back you could see he was grinning from ear to ear...... i knew this was gonna be good!!! He asked me what my ideal would be and i said 450 in which he replied 'so 482 will do you then!!!???' At which point i creamed my pants!!!

He then said the fatal thing - ' i think we can get a bit more out of it with a bit of ign advance' which was like red rag to a bull and the 500 mark was so close!!!!! He needed to tidy up the cruise map so off he went again! When he came back this time he said he was done and that i could go film one run - and he wouldnt let on what power it was making, he just said film the run then film the screen and check the power....... he did the run which was awesome then when the screen flashed up showing 501.8hp i nearly passed out!!!!!!

So end result was 501.8 @ FLY @ 8000rpm @ 1.6bar, 450 @ wheels and approx 410lb/ft of torque @ fly.

Rob said that the torque was down becuase he had to clip the boost back due to compressor surge. I think that if i could sort the compressor surge we could get more power too but for now 500 is good for me!!!

Rob also was very complimentary of my boot mount ic (inlet temps sat solid @ 35 oC) and said the turbo kit was a nice setup and one of the best looking kits he had seen.

On the road this thing is an animal! off boost its like a normal car but when you get that turbo spooled up it just goes mental! 5th gear pulls like first!

Cant wait now to get down the strip and see what times i can manage!

Rob gave me a few tips that i can do which will help so im gonna crack on with that as soon as the bank recovers!!

Hopefully Rob will post a reply and share his views with us too!!!

Many thanks go out to Rob and Claudio - top guys and a top day!!

Nathan

Thats the Shex!

Great figures and the torque looks very good too. Bet that drives like a neck snapper! Lookslike Perfect Touch know what they are doing (unlike other tuners)

Awesome!

Do perfect touch think this map/tune is close to the limits for your setup or do you still have plenty of safety margin?

that power at 1.6 bar is impressive. Must be lots of fun.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Im running a HKS TO4S turbo, i think to be fair there is still more to come if i wanted it.

Bigger valves, head job, more boost and a different intake manifold (Poss bigger injectors) would yeild me more. Maybe 550?? Who knows!!!

All i know is that i raced a scooby type r who would be a close race on ole motor and now he was reversing away from me!!!

I plan on being in the 10's. And Rob will back this up - a cool 175mph with more left bodes well for TOTB surely??? (all on private Tony Blair land obviously!)

Rory, i hate to think but ALL the work has been carried out myself (apart from Tim who wired up my WI and IC fans - cheers mate!!)

To be honest i was very careful in my selection and spent my money very wiesly.

500hp totally exceeded my expectations especially with some in reserve!!

Thats the good thing about future proofing!!

No offense but seeing that car at the RR day you'd never guess from it's looks, seems to plain and worn on the outside.

Great result, must be one of the highest in the UK? Now lets see how long until something in the drivetrain breaks :(

very few outside the US and Japan I'd say. I thought mine was going to be a bit OTT for a road car but the goal is only 400bhp.

Well done mate!

Idle is good - bit lumpy but got that motersport sound!! When it spools up it sounds like a jet fighter plane!! The turbo and the boot mount ic are the key factors to this setup!!!

Maybe its now time for me to start advertising my motorsport company!!!

As with everything, you get what you pay for and i have had no expence spared at all!

Also the torque figures could be a lot higher but the due to the compressor surge Rob couldnt maximise them. Maybe one ive messed around a bit ill go back down there and let Rob work more magic. But for now im just gonna enjoy!
