i heat wrapped all three, with 2000degrees c ,reflective sheet,on letting it tick over for a coupla mins or three,a lot of smoke appeared above the heat wrapped area,is this normal with new manifolds and heat wrap ?

You get smoke off heat wrap, especially when new. Heat wrap also holds moisture which will eat away your downpipe etc alot quicker than without.

Hey man, worry about smoke when its from flames, or out of your exhaust lol

graeme, yeah,it was the thought of flames that made me stand there with a fire extinguisher pointed right into the engine bay [-o< :)
still,i fired e up again tonight, and the smoke appeares to be dissapearing(contradiction in terms) so .......yaaaaay for me.

elmo,i got it from ebay, for the turbo their was some adhesive backed insulation(2000 c),its only adhesive so it allows you to mould it to the contours and stay there, also held it in place with a couple of stainless steel wire ties, just to be on the safe side.....looks blingin dude.
also brought some lower temp heat sheeting to cover the firewall and ic pipes in , thats 500 c stuff.
type a search on ebay for "rpm.msport " there in ware , hertfordshire.
manifold was heat wrapped with 50mm bandage, its still warm, but you can hold the manifold with your hand without smelling roast pork lol :)
cheers greeny,i think thats part of it too.

Wrap

Post by Ja99a »

Hey I wrapped my down pipe - It smoked like a b1tch for a day or so, now its just a little smelly some times.

You can see it wrapped, on my webby http://www.frickerm.co.uk/Projects/Proj ... ery_01.htm

Piccys are from when I have to remove my hybrid CT26A the other day and decided to wrap the DP. Back to standard CT26 power :) actually better than I remember, but I spent a while cleaning up the turbo and opened up the exhaust housing so it can breathe a little better; past the turbo, perhaps its helped a little, wont know till next trip to the pod....

Only partially covered the DP as the top is a bu88er and when I tried to bolt it up the nuts wouldnt fit past the wrap same sort of thing at the bottom. Oh its a genuine aussie.

My mate at 800bhp.com (ebay seller) sells the heat wrap pretty cheap, might want to give him a try way cheaper that Demon tweeks anyway.
