alternator bracket removal

Post by eminem0473 »

hi i have a revision 1 turbo what i have just bought, the guy i purchased it off told me it wanted a new alternator and mounting bracket fitting as the old alternator wasnt charging the battery. The old alternator is off a normal 2 litre mr2 and is smaller than the 1 i have bought to replace it.
Can anybody tell me if the mounting bracket will need changing or are they the same right through the range, can you also tell me how i would go about replacing the bracket as it looks as though the drive shaft will have to be removed even though the bolt hidden by the drive shaft is out?
p.s i have removed the old alternator and the nuts and bolts holding the alternator bracket to the block but i still cant get the bracket off.

CAN ANYBODY HELP

On my Rev 3 there are four bolts holding the bracket on. The driveshaft did not have to come out. Other than that I don't know.

i think you will find there are a couple of sizes, i know for sure there is a 1600mm mount to mount and a 1650mm mount to mount, i had to change the bracket myself when i got a new alt. i am assuming the mount is more or less the same on my n/a but there are four or five 14mm bolts bolting it to the crank case. Enjoy, its a pain.

Cheers Mike
