Question to everyone with a Rev 5 combat spoiler -

Post by Rory »

Ive noticed that my Rev 5 spoiler shakes when i get up to about 50mph+. My spoiler is secured. Its the wing part of the spoiler not the side bits that shakes. It peaks at about 80mph. Is this normal? Is there any genuine Rev 5 owners with a toyota instruction manual on how and when to adjust the spoiler?

yes my rev5 spoiler and my old rev3 spoiler used to shake too. dont know about high speed but on idle it skakes with the engine/engine lid.I feel better stability tho since this better looking spoiler,

Sounds normal.. check fixings now and again or look at the side bolts(after removing the covers) on the spoiler, see how tight they are.

Mine doesnt shake on idle. Im talking about when it catches the wind. It really looks like its doing a good job holding the back end of the car down. I definalty noticed a difference in stability when i fitted my Rev 5 spoiler! Ive never played around adjusting it though. Does adjusting it make and difference or is the feature just for show?

My previous MR2 a rev5 n/a spoiler was as solid as a rock, it didn't move at all.
The current MRD spoiler on the tubby does though... :?

I have a genuine rev5 (on a rev5 car), and my spolier looks like it shakes quite a lot at motorway speeds, when I first got the car, I stopped to check Id shut the boot!
I guess its normal, havent tried adjusting the angle though, maybe it would help? Sim.

Ditto.. REV5 car REV5 spoiler - flexes quite a bit at high speed - it's normal mate.

I'll try and remember to check my log book bout how to adjust it for you and post up soon. (evening)

cheers

Just to repeat what everyone else has said :D
My genuine rev5 spoiler vibrates at motorway speeds - never concerned my as I read somewhere by someone else a year or so before I got mine, that this was normal.
No shaking about at idle though.

right then.. as i haven't got a scanner i'll have to type the whole damn lot ! - Am I good to you or what !

The angle of the spoiler is adjustable by 3 steps.
your spoiler is set up as standard initinally (1) The standard angle gives you both stability and controlability in normal driving conditions.Other angles (2 and 3) give you better drivability under specific conditions (eg driving in a circuit) by lowering the front edge or the rear spoiler that gains down force on rear.

Don't Toyota talk a load of crap hahaha
anyway back to the typing..

1. take off the side covers on both sides of the rear spiler by unscrewing the bolts with 5mm hexagon wrench.

2. Loosen the centre bolts on both sides to adjust the spiler angle with 10mm socket wrench.

3. Unscrew the front bolts on both sides of the rear spoiler with a 10mm socket wrench

4. Adjust the spoiler angle as desired. Then torque the front bolts with your hand after making sure that both sides are in the same position.

5. Tighten the bolt securly with 7.9n.m (81 kgf-m, 5.9ft-lbf) or force. then tighten the centre bolt with same force.

6. Re-install the side covers and tighten the bolts securely.

Sorry no pics but I'm not using paintbrush to draw you diagrams too !!

if you need to look it's all on pages 81-85 of your user manual

cheers

with replicas like me, non adjustable but who needs it??!!

Also I found by loosening the screws inside the covers (former adjusting ones) I had to do that so it could fit on the boot, bit of flex. I will take a look tomz for retightening tho 8)

Yes mine shakes under idle but not high speed.

Thanks Frank. What angle do you think my spoiler is currently set to? Does it look like the angle yours was set to when you got it? I think its currently high on the back edge of the wing. Would that be the "circuit driving" setting??

Don't know to be honest with you Rory.. look at where the "wing" joins the upright "fins" - that will give you an idea of how much of an angle it is set up with.. failing that just have a play around - it's only a set of bolts at the end of the day - and once you've done it once i assume you'll be able to adjust it quicker (you've had the practice) for when you ever want to change it in the future (ie if you ever take it on track).

not sure how much of a differemce it would really make though.. might just be a little gimmick more than than anything - you'd have to be a serious driver to actaully benefit from the results i would imagine.

interested on other people's thoughts as to the effectiveness of this adjustable standard toyota spoiler. :?

frank
