Come On People

The Track day is next weekend and there are still available spaces.

For all those that have paid, thank you!

Looks like its going to be a good day and we are all going to get plenty of track time, and the event will pretty much be exclusively MR2’s. There also seems to be a good few owners coming down to watch which is good and Lauren is going to be on hand to give track tips so perfect for any new starters. So hopefully the day will be a bit of a social as well.

There are still spaces for anyone that’s interested. Let me know if you are genuinely interested in attending.

We have a few non MR2’s attending which will mix things up a bit. Possibility of a Cosworth powered, RWD 205 which should be very interesting.

My wife is away on a course that weekend now, and my '2 has a busted manifold. Worse case is, I will be there in her car.

So, I have a free space if anyone wants it - if not I will get a credit note for another day.

Cheers,
Nick

Do you want to take my wife's place at cost? It would save me getting a credit note...

Cheers,
Nick

I may have to sell my slot
I had an operation on Wednesday and there was a lot more to it than they originally thought. As a result, driving is impossible at the moment and may be so for the next 2 weeks! Hopefully I'll start healing and getting more comfortable in the car as the week goes on, but on Wednesday I'm going to have to make a decision.
Hopefully see you all on Saturday

Track day essentials

Please do not forget the following

Your driving licence
Your helmet
Long sleeve clothing – no shorts – sensible driving foot wear
Some spare money for food and drink – keep hydrated you will be surprised how much energy you use!
Money if you haven’t already paid!

Might be worth bringing

Some tools – just in case the worst happens (you can safely leave them in the pit)
Something warm – we are in October so weather can be changeable
Something to keep you dry – it’s the UK so it may rain

Things to check

Check your oil, coolant and tire pressures
Make sure everything on the car is working as it should
Its also worth making sure you get to the circuit with a full tank of fuel – there is a Petrol station on the road out of Cardiff to Llandow, this is the only station of know of in the area unless others know better?

On the day

Chill out, have some fun and enjoy yourself.
Introduce yourself to others and don’t be afraid to join in with conversation.
If you need any help, borrow tools just ask, I am sure everyone will be happy to help.
Some other MR2 people may want a passengers ride so if you’re happy to accommodate them that would be nice.
Keep within your abilities and you will be fine, don’t try and keep up with the guy in front if it means you going beyond you skill level.
Take regular breaks, for your car and yourself.

If anyone can add anything else then please do.

Ouch, is it just rough running or more serious like internals? Would be a shame if you couldnt go Chris.

Typically my AE86 refused to start and did some weird stuff the other day suspect I have a bad connection somewhere – looks like its silly season for cars. Thankfully it spluttered into life as soon as I said I was going to get rid of it …. It always works, cars have souls.

Sounds big endy (again :( ) really clattery on start up but stops after about a minute of running. I changed one of the bearings on Saturday as I was begining to hear some noise whilst driving, No.3 was in poor shape (as I expected) all the others were OK. So I torqued them all back up, reassembled, primed the oil system and she was fine for a hundred miles, then clatter. :(

Difference between torquing may be a partial cause, when I did the bearings earlier this year I used a simple 36ft/Ib, but found out later this is for the single hex conrod bolts. When I torqued them on Saturday I used the BGBs 29ft/Ib + 90 degrees which is correct for the engine (allegedly).

Bumholes, that’s not good. Any chance you can work your magic and get the old girl running again with a quick bearing swap? Is it all or just one? It will be a shame if you cant make it. Why is it cars have a knack of going balls up just before an event?

Cheers

 A quick bearing swap would require quick delivery from MrT.

I think this engine's a dead loss, I rushed the rebuilt to get it ready for Anglesey, cut corners etc. #-o stupid of me. I'll ask Vashy if he wants my place. I take it a call to Llandow is required to transfer ownership?

I'll be up there to watch, my car is still in bits, we'll be in my brothers turbo, can't go on as he's only put a rebuilt engine in this week so has to run it in.

Any chance of a passenger ride on the day with anyone? I used my old NA on Llandow, brilliant day, seemed to spend too much time facing the wrong way though  !

Yeah, that's right mate, I spoke to them the other day.
I definitely won't be able to go, just been signed off work for another 2 weeks! If someone wants to give me £90 for my slot, I'd be happy.
Don't really want to cancel the slot, as Llandow aren't exactly making much money out of this as it is?
Cheers, Raz :)

Most ghey! Its not something you should really rush anyway mate, just sorry you cant take part. Will you come down anyway or are you now boned for transport? Have you tried ACL, or Duraglide bearings – IIRC they are cheaper than Toyota and I suspect you could find a place to rush them out to you – still will be a push for the weekend but at least you wont be off the road for ages whilst Toyota get there act together.

Llandow shouldnt have a problem swapping ownership of the ticket, if you have any problems let me know and I will have a word. Would be good if Vashy could take your place and help maintain numbers.

I'll see what I can do re transport, I've been to look at a beater (Hyundai Accent) with 12 months MoT, so may be able to do it if it's a good car (mechanically). Any experience with them James? (1.5l M reg £240)
