dude thats absolutely shocking the luck you have with these cars after the fault finding you went through to try and resolve that issue....

i'd say go for your next one standard as possible then you'll have a better chance of not blowing up another engine ](*,) ](*,)

Best of luck in the search!!

Thanks guys.

The reason I've decided not to try to repair this car is because, well, I've spent the last 5 months trying to turn it into a nice car with one problem after another after another and it's just too distressing to keep working at it, and losing more and more time and money.

Unlike you lucky mainland dwellers, I live in N.Ireland where mr2 specialists are pretty much non existant and I just don't have the knowledge or free time to continue testing and replacing parts.

If I'd lived in England I'd have left the car into 3S or rogue at the very first sign of trouble and I would by now be driving a very nicely runnigjn mr2. But, again, due to living on a different chunk of rock this was not really an option.

The car needs an engine rebuild, the underfueling mystery solved and sorted, a full suspension overhaul, panels resprayed in certain areas, and lots of rattly bits located and sorted. And even after all that I could find other problems down the line. It was sold to me as a very well sorted car but sadly it was not and I am afraid of what other problems lurk round the corner with it. My time, patience and money have run out with this car.

So, if I break it I will recoup a fair few quid as I spent alot on it and there are a few very good bits which are worth good money if I sell on. I'll buy a standard rev3 tubby in black and if any panels or interior bits are slightly scruffy I have a whole car sitting here to swap out the bits.

It will be a fresh start with a fresh car and hopefully this time I'll have some luck \:D/

I went through a phase of giving up on mr2s and looking at other models as my next car but I just couldn't do it! I love mr2s! And a huge part of why I'm sticking with them is because of this forum. The people here are the most helpful and sound guys I've known on any forum across the whole internet and I know if I bought another car and joined another forum it just wouldn't be the same. Hats off to all of you for making this place something really special.

And thanks again to everyone who tried to help in this thread.

I'll be back when I've scraped together enough funds to get a new tubby! 8)

Happy days! I'll be over in the next lot of weeks hopefully if I can find a nice tubby.

I don't suppose anyone near North Yorkshire would fancy viewing this one I've found would they? Save me flying over and buying another lemon lol There's beer money in it!

Oh but I just love turbos!

Quick update on the car search. I've found a nice black rev3 tubby located on the mainland. 90k miles, completely standard engine apart from a dump valve and has never run more than standard boost. Full service 3 weeks ago with receipts to prove, and seemingly a pretty good sound system. Going for £4500.

If I can afford it I think I'll go for it.

stupid question.

Did you not think to take the car to a good tuner , get them to test it out on the rolling road, fault find etc.

Prob could have got to the root of the problem in a few hours?

It is a good question mate and I did try, infact I took it to a tuner that's supposed to be one of the bes tover here and they were pants. Even their level of friendliness and manners were pants. They told me it needed a new fuel pressure regulator and said it was an engine out job and quoted me £500. I got my mechanic to change the fuel pressure regulator for about £80 but it didn't solve the problem.
