Im panicking engine light on

Post by Plucky »

my engine light comes on now and then.

Its only when I get on the motorway or a road of similar speed (dual carriage way etc etc) It comes on and will stay on for the duration of the drive. If I turn the key off and on it will stay off for another 5 mins and then pop on again. Doesnt do it at all on town driving and the car runs absoluetly fine no funny sounds and no noticeable difference in performance.

Any ideas?

It has a full stainless steel exhaust. Aftemarket dump valve.

I beleive there are other mods, maybe engine as the feckers running at about 14-17psi.

But am unsure i've only had the car 3 weeks. Its a rev 1 tubby

Check the error codes mate.

Sounds like it could be the knock sensor.

Cheers,

Paul.

Most likely the cat temp sensor as this is one of the few things that can give the engine light without having an effect on the performance, as suggested check for error codes! doesnt sound serious! but dont boost in the meantime!

I doubt it's the cat temp sensor... That would light the cat-temp-sensor-warning light surely?

Just a stab in the dark, but my money's on it being the speedo signal to the ECU. (code 42?)

Of course, we're all assuming that you know how to check for error codes! Just in case you don't, here's the procedure courtesy of Ben Formesyn's excellent FAQ:

Good point about the light! should think more before opening the trap sometimes.
