True enough thats mainly on "private roads" that are pretty straight but hey, my car costs a third of a cheap new Evo or Scoob. As for AYC, active centre diff's etc, all well and good but who cares? My GT-S is ten years old, doesnt have ABS, no traction control, no fancy snow button - just 3 pedals and a 5 speed box. I've driven it hard and so far so good Ive not lost control.

By the way I am sitting across from Evo_Fraz from the MLR who says your a bit of a "fanny" and regularly cause users on the Mitsi forum endless hassle with your ramblings. If you own an Evo why are you here with the superiority complex annoying MR2 owners?

 I resemble that remark ;)

I'm only stating mechanical facts. It is MR2 owners that are scrabbling to justify the car on every ground they can RE cost, "reward" etc. So you tell me who has the complex.

To me, a relative newbie to the jap turbo world, I think its a case of one very fast car is ever so slightly faster than another fast car.

The EVO is a rally bred vehicle, designed to get maximum performance (speed + control etc) from a given cc and chassis shape, at the sacrifice of high servicing costs. Respect to mistu for doing it.

Technical progress (some might say superiority - some cheating) is a factor in achieving this, but if no manufacturer developed their car, we'd still be driving round on bias belted tyres with cart horse springs.

The 2 had different design criteria from the EVO so it would be logical to accept that the two cars are going to perform differently.

I'm not going to knock someone for their choice of car (well, yugo's maybe) - as I've got no idea what they wanted from their car. Most drivers don't know what 200+ bh/p feels like - I say live and let live.

Anyway - that's the IMOC peacekeeping session over.

To answer the original post - I bought my 2 because I got the feeling (feeling, not talking about facts and figures) it was developed by Mr T for pure driving enjoyment, ignoring practicalities such as children or boot space.

Other cars do this of course, but I found it ticked all the boxes I wanted.

To be honest this is a MR2 forum... but the MR2 is definately not the best car ever designed! lol

Its funny to watch an argument over what is better an EVO or a MR2... I like both, but failed to realise how quick the EVO was I know it can reach 60 in under 5ish but I stand next to one and would never see myself driving one... they are HUGE! makes my tubby look like a matchbox car! (a damn heavy one at that)

I think that AWD does take some fun out of driving.. but I have only ever driven 2WD vehicles so can't comment on whether or not its better. Track driving requires a different finesse than rally driving... hence rally drivers find it easier to convert over to track racing, but track racers find it harder to convert over to rallying.

I still prefer the MR2 due to tuneability... but the EVO is still a good looking car... just a bit big for my taste! (And also the brakes on the EVO are damn nice.. (well at least they look it) They're made by AP Racing aren't they?

Historically, all the MR2 Vs EVO 'debates' have been so anal you could make a Swedish porn film out of them.

Why anyone is rising to Aidy's bait is beyond me, and proof that you're all non-L337 noobs that should know better. :D

The EVO equiv of the MR2 is about the EVO III. Pretty similar in price but the EVO III again has better handling.

AFAIA the I, II, & III Evo's were better than the later ones, the later one's just got fatter/heavier.

In the land of the rising sun where the real big boys are the MR2 is forced to run in the 4wd class with the evo's as they have just as good a traction.....but they don't suffer with the power loss via the 4wd drivetrain like they do.

MR2
Mid -engined
Rear wheel Drive
2 seater

That says it all!!!

Porsches Ferraris NSX Supra e.t.c e.tc = mid engine rear wheel drive
why?

Driving is not only about making good track times or 0-60.

The selection of your car is an expansion of your personality! It's how you feel

I feel like drifting

Just chill out guys, there are some people who like an argument and will deliberately rile you into having one (say no more).

I always find car comparisons pointless tbh, MR2 vs EVO vs Skyline vs whatever - pointless. They are all designed with different ideas in mind, different philosophies, criteria, approach - just different.

Enjoy the car you have and let whatever else the next man has enjoy his is what I say. Everything else is just a pi$$ing contest and more fool you for getting involved in it!

Porsche 911's are rear engined and the 924 & 944 were front engined :P or did you mean the boxster? :D

As for mentioning Supra there.....:D :D

Some people will say the Mk1 is better than the Mk2 for the same reasons. The Mk2 is still faster though.

I suppose...but the power didn't get any higher with the later Evo's did it? with the AW11 & SW20 the factory power increased a fair bit, to counter the extra weight. Certianly hear in NZ the earlier evo's are holding all the top drag records as a pose to the later ones.

I can't argue with there performance....damn quick & easy to get power out of BUT also damn common :( Sooooooo many around & they all lokk the same, nice to have something a bit different.

This started off as a really good thread till that Evo t*ss*r came along and ruined it.

Anyway I like my 2 just because its got all the right ingredients! Power, handling, mid engined, rwd. :)

Oh and it certainly isnt a straightline car Mr Evo! Ive had mine on track 4 times so far and owned it 7 months. Its awesome round the track.

MR2 wins hands down on bird pulling power mind as at the end of the day an evo and scoob are still dull family sallons with big spoilers and a turbo :)[/quote]Chris I.

Ive been to cruises southend etc.. birds go for fiestas still unfortunately for practicality they couldnt care less on style.
hmmmm but sometimes they do look 8)
