hi Kev,

Yep its a MK1a so aerial in the roof. Got a new one from toyota for £40 which i thought was bearable. Its much better than the broken cheapo one that was in the car before and it fits much more flush to the roof too. its not a terrible job to change providing you can get the old one out complete with 2m drain tube that goes right down to the kick panel next to the accelerator! I had a 4 hour job to get the old drain tube out as it was stuck in the A-pillar. Once i'd done that it only took 20mins to get the new one in.

i'd love another MK1 as a mess around weekend car, i miss the Mk1 but i'd miss the MKII just as much and doubt i'd part with either!

hopefully when i get money together again i'll be able to afford to have both!

Hi Chris,
Yes i do miss my old na but at least i know it's going to be a great looking car again!
I wish i had decided to spend the money on it but i'm the same as you really ,no mechanical experience!

Lauren is taking my old car back to how it should be,can't wait to see it.
I will probably  when i do!

oh alright...cool,hate to say it though,if you owned a 1.5 im betting you'd sell the mk2....you being a former mk1 owner,it lets you get the best of both worlds blah blah....

But what a mk 1.5 really needs is a tuned engine in the back :D
Small turbos - they're not big and they're not clever!

Just say NO to small turbos!

Paul i've just been looking at your 1.5 write up and also read somewhere else that it would be approximately £3500 to roll in as a Mk1 and roll out as a completed Mk 1.5.

That seems good value to me for mk1 (ish!) handling with Supra TT acceleration), but is that estimate inclusive of all the fuel pump change, modification to the bulkheads engine cover, new clutch etc?

assuming there are no problems with the donor engine, bar poss clutch and the odd pulley, what is the possible max spiralling cost! or is it really pretty straight forward once the parts are sourced?

sorry i have a question for paul also, one car and parts are to hand, how long would it take a good mechanic (i.e not me haha) to put it all together?

toyota should be bloody making these anyway haha, the MK4 MR2 should be a MK1 with a turbo i think :p

pretty straight forward once the parts are sourced....the hardest bit is finding the mk2 turbo rear end clip, get that and your laughing, its 95% of the parts, get it too cheap though and it might give you future problems, budget for around £600-£1000 for a fairly low mileage clip.

You will need a new clutch £125,a pair of CV joints £80,an exhaust of sorts say £200,timing belt £30,Custom intercooler pipework around £100...that should just about convert a mk1 to tubby...but without brake and suspension upgrades.

I guess if things went badly and cost went up id say definately no higher than £4k but to be honest id expect the actual total turnkey cost to work out at around £3k to £3.5k......you really would do better to take it on yourself though, even if it means getting someone in to do a few hours welding, you could save a hell of a lot if you did it yourself.

it took me 6 weeks to do mine, but a lot of that was making it bling and juggling it with work, sourcing parts i didnt think id need etc...nik did his in a fortnight, all depends on the mechanic i suppose....id like to think i could do one in 10 days or so if all the parts were there and ready to go.
