IMOC bogus seller "Biteme"

Post by CosmosblueMR2 »

All,
Right I've had enough and am now naming and shaming (as per Mod Esmond said i could do) 8)
PLEASE PLEASE if anyone is thinking of buying any goods from IMOC user "biteme" - then DO NOT.

This #anker (and no that's not "banker" - I'm one of those haha  ) has now done a runner with my money and now PayPal is doing a full investigation on my behalf.
The aforementioned seller - (oh sod it - here it is again for you to remember - "BITME" ) has 1 ad on the for sale section - it is his one and only post since joining.
here it is:
http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic. ... highlight=
(what can i say I was too trusting  - or naieve  )

Right so just to re-confirm ... anyone see's this "bitme" user - please avoid like the plague - and also for other users thinking of buying, please do not be like me - do your research first ! :-(

As a matter of interest - did anyone else pay any money or at least enquire from this seller ? - would be interested to know what replies you got back.

thanks
Frank
(don't feel too sorry for me though - it was £225 granted  but all things well i pick up my baby from Rogue Systems next weekend (they are "pimping my ride" 8)):

unlucky mate.

sometimes it's best to stick to the regular posters as these pikeys usually crop up on all forums. be vigilant and you'll be fine.

cant fault you for trusting someone.... but occasionally some scum bags out there are just out to take advantage of people..... they more often than not get there's too

I mailed him asking for the part number or a pic of the fuel pressure regulator within minutes of the ad going up - 3 days later he wrote back to say he'd sold it, that's all I got from him.

I presume Paypal have his address details available for you to view? Is he really called Richard Allan ([email protected])?

I'm not sure that would be the case - as otherwise any "dispute" could end up in fistycuffs from irrate buyers wanting a piece of the seller

This is very dissapointing to hear.

Can IMOC do anything to perhaps try and prevent this?

hmmm Mods.. just an idea but how about limiting the posting of adverts on the for sale section untill the user has posted a set number of topics / replies..

It "might" stop unscrupulous (spelling? ) people simply signing up and posting a single bogus post - as what appears to have happed in my case !

On some of the forums I use people aren't allowed to post in the for sale section unless they have paid a joining fee to become a full member - when the "super-dooper package" comes in maybe they can combine it with that to stop people using the forum to scam? It's unlikely scammers will pay a joining fee in the hope their scam works.

Or have it based on a number of posts as already suggested....

Sorry to here that Frank - I think you were damn unlucky to get stung.
Speaking as a member of IMOC for over 5 years now, I can honestly say that this incident is unusually rare and that hundreds of members have traded on the site without cause for concern.
However this is a public forum and from time to time something like this will inevitably crop up as it has done with poor Frank.
We as members and in particular new members should try to remain vigilant and air on the side of caution when trading on the forum with a person you're not familiar with.
When making a purchase it might be advisable to generate some kind of rapport with the person first either via PM's email or even ask for a home contact number to put your mind at ease.
With performance parts often trading at several hundred pounds I think we should all be a tad more cautious before firing off hard earned money via the internet to a complete stranger.

Hard luck Frank

That sucks dude, but he will get his Karma!! No seriously, much sympathy to you and hope you can get at least something back.....

Its a shame that the minority ruin the trust with second hand sales. Incidents like this make me extra sceptical and I often end up buying new from a physical store

Like you say, you're gona get your beast soon!! Would you mind giving a ball park of the conversion as I might be tempted??

If anyone has a ballpark idea of where this guy is from, e.g. Essex or whatever i might possibly be able to find his address

not sure about "beast" lol

it's only set up as standrd for now - with a few future proofing mods - which ok granted will make it a bit more pokey than standard

ball park on the conversion eh ?.. well it's not cheap !
unless you are mad like me ;-) or love your original car, it's probably best financially to sell and buy a tubby.. but seeing as you asked..

my donor car cost me slightly more than usual as it is a REV4 - but you can pick up REV3's from Rogues from about £2500 i think..

their basic charge for doing conversion is £1000 + VAT

but if you're mad like me and with all the extra bits it's starting to mount up BIG time!

I would only do a conversion if you are in the same boat as me (know enitre history of your current vehicle, slightly bonkers, can get a decent low milage donor car for a decent price)

HTH cheers Frank.

I bought an apexi induction kit from a bloke in America.. I paid with paypal, it never arrived, the bloke said it was sent, but he didnt even have a shipping number or receipt..

I contacted paypal and after 3 months i received £65 in a refund from paypal... roughy 2/3rd's the value of the item.

if paypal are investigating it, you should get some sort of refund mate... they are insured for every transaction, so keep hassling them.
