This is silly it’s turning into a marketing show piece for the main tuners to battle it out for magazine space and tuning recognition. The gap between the tuners and the average Joe is now insurmountable. It’s like a works rally team turning up to compete against a amateur rally competitors on very limited budgets. It’s not an equal competition and it does draw into question whether it’s even worth attending. Obviously you take part for the enjoyment of taking part but when the amateur entries are not even acknowledged (i.e TOTB3 DVD) then it does seem slightly worthless. The focus is all on the tuner cars and they don’t even cover the handling as this is where most of the tuner cars are shamed (more about driver skill than sheer amount spent).

This Tim Webster guy also has a team of 13 that attend the event with him IIRC? He won the jap show event in his car and he had had guys flown in from Japan for the event. Unless they change the format then the event will die off as it’s the amateur entries that make the event worthwhile and also make the numbers up!

I kind of agree but the event is "Ten of the Best" - a showcase of the top 10 best cars in the UK each year, sadly a lot of cars that truly are the best don't take part but the big budget stuff is by far the most exciting to watch so it's no wonder it gets the coverage.

However....

I agree that there needs to be more focus on the grass roots cars and this is why I suggested splitting the event over 2 days - silly tuner / rich boy cars one day, more normal stuff on the other to highlight what the little people are capable off - then maybe a best of the best shootout to combine the winners from the two days or something?

I wouldn't like to see all the big power cars dropped from TOTB, it needs expanding, not restricting IMO.

I recon what they should do as Michael says, TOTB for the tuners to fight it out and then a BOR for us simple folk. Or put the tuners / world known cars into a demo category at TOTB. They can do there couple of runs but not count for points.

I like the spirit that its actually cars/car clubs battling it out which is how the TOTB 1/2 seemed to me.

hows about the chappie with the ludicrous powered 2 up in bonny scotland? he was pulling silly times b4 on the qrtr. sure he is a member. dont know name tho. soz i cant compete (even in new car) but will be up to support for tea/coffee duty for entrants this year (mainly as i know pretty much didly squat about tuning an engine!)

Can i stress that all entrants MUST go on a straict diet prior to event. NO burgers. We need you guys to be as light as possible so we can show the rest of the world what a true race car (ish) (RW, Mid engine) can do

Good luck boys/girl(s)

I believe his best time is in the 11's and I can see a few on that list that should be running those sorts of times :D

LOL @ michael.

I agree. I think the car did do a 10.9 but he didnt drive it. IIRC the driver couldnt get traction all the way down/up the strip.

Oh I know the car scraped a 10.9 at around 125 IIRC, but hence why I said

"his best time is in the 11's"

The driver who got a 10 was the Forrester chap who drove his super quick scooby at TOTB3 IIRC.

It's a very quick car with lots of potential but at the end of the day it's not suitable for TOTB :)

Very true, but he's got different gearing to you fella hasn't he?

IIRC the yank's tend to need around 130 across the line with the standard gearing to pull a 10, unless its had loads of weight reduction :)
