Wet weather juddering

Post by vaz9764 »

After heavy rain my MR2 judders in 1st, 2nd, & 3rd gear. It calms down as the engine warms up. I'm guessing its a distributer problem. Has anyone else had this problem?

Sounds like water ingress around the sparkies.

Thanks, I've removed the HT leads from the spark plugs to have a look but all that's in there is a bit of oil around the base of the HT lead where it connects to the spark plug. Is this normal or should it be totally dry?

the oil is due to your cam cover gasket leaking ,

the stuttering may be due to the rubber seal between the dizzy cap and dizzy being left out on a previous service

I had the same problem, Try spraying WD40 around the coil & dizzy cap, It worked for me & its been over 6 months & still no probs

don't use cheap release spray as it does not seem to work as well as WD40 does :D

That'll be because one is a water dispersant lubricant and the other is a release agent lubricant!!!!

...I should have been a little more generic in my previous answer - I meant to say that it sounds like water ingress in the ignition system. Hope you've got it sorted.

I get the same problem with mine and this is due to the fact the previous owner bought a dizzy cap without the rubber seal so should just need a new cap and rotor arm with the seal to sort it out.
