brakes ???

Post by 3sgte »

where is the best place to get a good deal on uprated (grooved) discs
and uprated pads , and what sort are best ??? heard mixed reports about ebc green and redstuff ,

brake pads on my car are getting down and i thought i would change them all at once ,
also is it worth upgrading to braided hoses ??

by the way i have rev3 brakes on my rev1

Twosrus.co.uk & fensport spring to my mind for uprated discs & pads.

I've not much experience with updated brakes though, although I do have braided hoses on my rev5 - no noticable difference between the stock rubber Toyota hoses, but then again mine were only 5 years old when I replaced them.

Why not keep stock discs and use very good quality pads.

See Rogue (http://www.revision6.com/forms/Product.aspx?ID=426) for the Carbotech range.

I'm currently using some ACRE kevlar pads but will switch to the Carbotech on next pad change.

i have found the stock discs and pads very good at sensible speeds , just when trying to stop from higher speeds brakes go to mush , i was told it is the gasses from the pads contaminating the dics , and that grooved discs will help this , any truth ????

grooved discs may help ever so slightly, but you'll pay in increased pad wear. In all honesty if you get a decent pad this will sort it, providing the rest of your braking system is working correctly.

So get a good pad and use stock discs.

TBH the main benefit from grooved disks is they wear the pads evenly, avoiding the ridged wear lines you normally get on the disks

yeah grooved disk will lenghten the life of the disks but lower life of pads.

I am running EBC grooved and drilled with EBC redstuff pads AND they are ok when cold cold but when warm they rock...really good fade resistance too.

Just need to get some braided hoses on and 5.fluid too.

Disks on ebay

Post by osborne0 »

I have been looking at discs on http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors

The prices look very good (all 4 disks for around £70 - £80). Most of the sellers will not sell outside the USA or Canada but some will. You need to contact them and ask the cost of delivery. Can't vouch for the quality as I have not bought any yet.

An example is -

I am curious to what others think of this?

Unless your doing any racing on a track i cant see the point. Good quality pads ard stock discs give more than enough performance for road use. The only reason i can find for changing the discs is the appearance behind the wheels when parked up.

Call me miserable and scrooge but thats my opinion

Besides, you shouldnt be driving fast enough to overheat the brakes on UK roads [-X
