What do you think of this???

Post by Mikejc »

As some of you already know I studied and worked as a pro photographer for many years shooting fashion and youth culture, and the odd pain in the rear wedding. I eventually fell away from the job for no other reason than developing a disliking for the types that the work brought me into contact with, ie other pretentious photographers and models who thought far too much of themselves!

I'm still very much involved in my photographer but more as a hobbiest these days than anything else. But just recently i've been thinking about combining this hobby with the other great hobby in my life...Cars!

I would like to be able to offer a service where by other car enthusiasts can have a professional portfolio bespoked for their own cars. Anything would be possible, from a one day shoot to a step by step photo documentation of an engine build etc can be done. Events such as track days, R/R days, 1/4 mile.....you get the picture, (no pun  ) The captured images could be given in print or disc form or even arranged around a web site should you wish.

I'd really like to know what you guys think of the above, good or bad?

Mike, my advice bud is setup the long awaited Toyota performance magazine! easily done i looked into it myself, go to whsmiths a pick up a copy of affordable performnace car magazine, at the back you will find the name of the publisher/printer/and distributor, get your figures from them, sort out some guys form various boards to write an article monthly, bung em 50 quid for the article, go about taking as many snaps as you like :D
I seriously considered the idea but thought better of it when i realised i couldnt read or write!

This would be my careers advice for you my boy!

I do like your idea James but it's not really for me. Caree wise i'm pretty sorted to be honest. This was just a simple way of combining the two things that take up all of my spare time in any case

Mike,

just something to add about trackdays. Most trackday companies (and this is certainly true of bookatrack for example) has a photography company that they use for their events. So while you could take pictures, you could not get the trackside access you would need to get the best angles etc.

Having said that the guy that does the piccies for bookatrack (picman dot co dot uk) has a seemingly rapidly expanding business and seems to often have new photographers at our trackdays, so wonder if there might be an opening there for you? Its not glamorous work mind, standing in the middle of a circuit in pouring rain etc... It also wouldn't exclusively cover MR2s of course.

wow never knew that mike, sounds good, i've looked at combining a hobby and a job for years but can't think of anything i'd like to do that brings both together so i end up doing crap admin jobs haha.

i think the magazine idea is great! i'd help with that, just make sure i get an easy job like errr £20k a year tea boy or something :D
