[Mk2 NA] To TOMs or Not To TOMS????!

Post by dannyroids »

Any opinions on Toms scoops anyone? I am toying with the idea of putting one on my MR2 1997 T-BAR Jap import but im not too sure as i heard that they can be counter productive and actually damage the engine. Whats your opinions on these people. What are the mods/cons of these.

Oh and also if i was to get one how are they mounted? Do they have to be fitted onto the already existing side panel?

Thanks

Danny

My opinion ?..

... they look stupid and ruin the sleek lines of the Mk2.

they won;t do dmage as such to teh engine , but they will stall the airflow that Toyota designed what with the undertrays feeding air up from underneath the car and out through the engine lid.

shoving air back down against the airflow isn;t gonna help matters... the Original Toms I beleive was designed for the NA, but had a compartment underneath.. so the fed air went just to the filter...

never seen one myself but that's what I've heard... good old hearsay

depends, i personally like them without but i've got a full tom's so gotta have the scoop.

With mine i'm in the middle of making a cold air chamber that sits directly below and holds my apexi filter. This way there is no air stalling as people says and is used as intended by tom's

Its just a matter of opinion its your car, do what makes you happy bud.

i've already got an orignal tom's rear wing buddy, brand spanking new direct from tom's japan. Even got the lower rear spoiler that sits underneith as well brand new straight from tom's japan.

I won't tell you how i managed this seeing they stopped making them years ago :D
