Quickest 1/4 mile times at totb v

Post by tony g »

Just MR2's here. By my reckoning Andrew Standring on his first ever drag meeting with a 12.07 was the quickest 2 there. With a poorly clutch later on he couldnt improve on that but it was very close to an 11, so good luck for next time mate!
Any other notable times that need adding to the list?
I think Mike JC ran 12.5 also
Well done also to Toni who was on a steep learning curve with the new power lol- pityabout the lack of times being registered though

with my standard(ish) rev2 tubby with 15psi i managed a 13.6 at 101mph down york raceway....how is it 350-400bhp+ mr2s are only managing 13's??

You're on a proper drag strip, not an old airfield. The difference in grip is huuuuge!

remember elvington isnt a treated strip and it was a very hot day. even the 1000bhp supras were struggling to get into the 10s being beaten by technically slower cars.

York raceway is the same as elvington id say? Not trying to say your wrong but ive raced down both and theyre both old shoddy runways to be fair.

If you're saying you can do better, then put yourself forward for the team next year ;)

By all means not bad times at all and really do appreciate all the money/time spent. some good 12 second runs i was expecting with 550bhp+ to be into the 11s thats all i was meaning and i know it is capable of it..

I know what you mean. The amount of stuff ive heard on here about sarcy childish comments on mr2oc, lately its all been on here with big arguements about racing and how none of the mods and older members never do it :^o Its fairly obvious why we all have MR2s theyre not weekly shop cars...

Lack of power was not a problem where my 1/4 mile times were concerned. We had only just fitted the Tein Flex suspension that week and so found ourselves running a set up far from ideal for drag racing. Time will be spent testing various different set ups over the next few weeks which should see us dropping into the 11's with little effort once we get it right \:D/

You are right about my steep learning curve, LOL. It didn't help that my Racelogic TC and launch decided to do a burton on the day. :o

I know what you mean about times too, I've done a 13.9 in my standard rev3 at Santa Pod, so was a bit disappointed not to register a 12 in a car with some 150~ bhp more!! But grip was poor - and the Toyos I had on the car were very very poor IMHO. I will get a lot faster when I learn the power delivery and change to decent tyres, the car is well capable of an early 12 maybe a late 11. Particularly as I was limited to 1.6 bar on the day and the car can easily take 2+

As a matter of interest I was doing terminals of 111mph which is safe 12s territory, it was my launches and getting out of first letting me down.

T
(edited the terminal got it wrong, doh!)

i think mr2nut just asked what everybody else was wondering. mikejc and toni have explained what difficulties they felt they encountered, which is what everybody was wondering, and i'm sure those replies are appreciated (unlike a couple of others). He didn't ask the question in a nasty way, just trying to find out what happened, maybe we can all learn from the teams experience.

unfamiliar surface, high ambient temperature and good-ole nerves probably had a part to play too.

End of the day, the club put in a decent showing, and if the team enjoyed themselves nearly as much as i did watching, then none of us have anything to complain or worry about.

It is harder than it looks, particularly if you've never driven the car in that spec until you sit on the start line of the quarter mile, LOL

Yes, I didn't think MR2Nut123 was having a go! Like you say it's dead easy to misinterpret things on forums.

Anyway, here are the best MR2 times from the 1/4 mile qualification:

B26 .. Andrew Standring .. Toyota MR2 .. 12.09 @ 117
B25 .. Michael Commons .. Toyota MR2 .. 12.67 @ 110
B22 .. Mark Edwards ........ Toyota MR2 .. 12.80 @ 109
B20 .. Andy Forster .......... Toyota MR2 .. 12.92 @ 107
B27 .. Adam Riley ............. Toyota MR2 .. 12.98 @ 112
B28 .. Toni Gladding ........ Toyota MR2 .. 13.18 @ 111
B24 .. Nick McCann .......... Toyota MR2 .. 13.45 @ 109
B23 .. Andrew Martin ……..Toyota MR2 .. 13.61 @ 108
B21 .. Neil Johnson .......... Toyota MR2 .. 13.78 @ 105

Soften up the rear and launch harder mate. That does the trick

Mike has tein Flex with EDFC - the rears were already at their softest setting. We'll be looking at changing the spring rates, but don't want to compromise the car's circuit handling.
