How much does your car weigh- (weighbridge newsage)

Put my MK1a on the scales today.

It had full fuel (30Kg)
spare wheel
took kit
extra speakers and tools and crap in the boot.

came in at: 1080kg

Take out 20kg for all the loose crap in the car and minus the fuel (30kg) and that leaves it at:

1030kg (1060kg with fuel)

My old SC which was stripped of all sound deadening, interior, passenger seat (had a carbon/f-glass comp seat) bitumen sound deadening etc. weighed:

1040kg (with full fuel) so 1010kg without.

Mark's Super Edition SC (totally stock) weighed:

1160kg (full fuel)
1130kg without

For a stock SC I would add 10kg for the stock seats (recaros in SE are lighter) which would bring it to:

1170kg (full fuel)
1140kg without

Now its fairly well established that the early MK1s are the lightest, what i would love to know is what a later stock MK1 coupe weighs and what a stock NA t-bar weighs also.

If anyone wants to weigh their car simply pop along to a public weighbridge. Cost is between £2-4 and it takes about 30 seconds if that.

It is surprising isn't it that an SC is so much heavier. I'd expect the later shell and the thicker b-pillars of t-bar cars (plus glass of course) to add weight, but its difficult to know how much.

Its loads!!!! Though in comparison with modern cars its not too bad as for example a mini weighs in @ 1300kgs.

As it's only a couple of quid to get a car weighed,i'll probably get mine done soon,i'm sure mine will be heavy especially with the seats i have!

Thats interesting as the t-bar seems a fair bit heavier ie 50kgs or so according to the others that have posted.

Yours would be over 1300kg with AC and full fuel.

The glass does weigh a fair bit. I'm goint to look into getting carbon ones instead, i've heard rumors they're available.

"could weigh more than 1200kgs" my mk2 turbo if i got a set of bucket seats and carbon bonnet & boot could weigh the same, or dare I say it...LESS than a mk1 turbo.. so it begs the question is it worth it????, its not going to be any faster then a mk2 turbo in a straight line certainly.

Well only if you have a tintop compared to a Mk1 t-bar. Turboing a an early MK1 and you'd struggle to match it for weight. So its the lightest turbo adn the heaviest MK1 type thing really.

for going in a straight line its not worth it, no. But its a personal choice i guess. I think the MK1 turbo would still be lighter than a tubby if you specced it right adn of course as the MK1 is 50odd kgs lighter (for a t-bar) you will always be 50kg ahead.

For example if you put a 3SGTE in my early Mk1 you could probably do it and still have the car under 1100kgs which you'd struggle to match.

However I do have:

Greddy side skirts
17" wheels,
Departure exhaust,
Decat,
Amplifier
so give or take a few Kgs from std
