FAO MK1 Owners - Silverstone Classic 29th 30th July

Post by Charged »

Hi All,

I know JAE has just happened and some of you might not want to attend, however there is a Mr2 Mk1 club stand booked at Silverstone this weekend, and it would be good to get a few Mk1's gathered together.

I will be there both days as I will be joining the retro run on the saturday. I also will be doing a couple of parade laps on the Sunday.

Is anyone else planning to attend? It does not matter if you have a post 1985 registered car for the club stand. The stand is booked for 15 cars, with over flow if required. This will be a great weekend event, with hundreds of classics on display and lots of track action to watch

Hope to see some familiar faces there, I will be in a Red Mk1a not the supercharger this time.

Could you please put your name down if you are attending!

Ollie

I will be going all 3 days. I've got my tickets, but if people need passes etc for sat or sun I can meet them at J15a services on the M1 in the morning on the way to silverstone.
I can get the tickets and passes from Ken and give them to people in the morning.
All you need to do is phone me - my mobile is on the MK1 club site committe info bit.

Hi guys.
Are there still any places for Mk1s on the stand? I'd love to come to this but have held off as I didn't know if I can get away from work this weekend (big deadline coming up). Trouble is, I still don't know if I can make it, but it is looking more likely.
What do people do in the evenings (in terms of sleeping) - camp out again?

Cheers.

Hi, yes there is room on the Mk1 stand. I will be going up saturday and sunday, but it is under an hour drive for me so I'll drive home on sat night and drive up again on sunday morning, I cant face another nite in a tent after my 2 hours of sleep at JAE!

Ollie,

May be able to come Friday or Sat (really not sure yet). If there's room on the stand I will park there, if not in the general car park. Ken has stand tickets I believe. Will phone if and when I get to Silverstone to see what the score is with car passes.

Hi Tom,

I spoke to Ken an hour or so ago. The stand is booked for 15 cars, apparently 10 are booked in allready which I was impressed by!

I believe there is a capacity for more than 15 cars on the stand.. Also apparently we are in thet 'grey area' of the club stands next to the Z Club.

I'm there sat and sun, hopefully see you there!

Hi - just to remind you, if you need passes for sat/sun, then you can meet me at J15a services, or at silverstone gate if you phone me. I will check with Ken on friday what he has left.

Be there early, before 10am each day.

further details here:

our area is on the grass: '18 GREY', west 4, car park 49, i think....

Hi Guys,
Found out today I can definately come - both days! Woohoo!
So, mr2mk1chick, if it's okay I'd like to get the passes from you on Saturday morning? I'd prefer getting them at the gate as I'm coming up the M40 but it may be easier to get it at the M1 services... Will probably check with you on this by phone on the morning.
Will we need to pay for the passes? And will we be able to get two passes (obviously one for me, and one for passenger) for both days?

Lastly, I've still not gotten 'round to sorting out my MR2 Mk1 membership (I've filled in the forms, just not put them in the post box) - will this be necessary or can I join on the weekend?

Sorry about all these questions, and sorry they're all last minute. It wasn't till today that I found out that I don't need to go to work at all this weekend...

Thanks,
Max

Edit: All sorted. Thanks Jo!

I'm meeting Max at 9:15 at J15a off M1, so if anyone else wants to join us there should be a 3 or 4 mk1 convoy :)

If peeps need more passes and tickets etc, buy them thru the mk1 club, as 2 entry passes for £15 (eg £15 per car). This is a huge discount from the on the gate price. If you ask me really nicely then i may get off my butt and walk to the entry gate (miles from our stand) to get the passes to you - ring my mobile (see mk1 club site - committee contacts)

Jo

PS: today was great!!! we have an ace pitch on the left as you go in to the main area - Look for the red gazebos.

I had a really good look around. Got right into the pits area and onto the pit board steps to get a really close look at the racing. (bring ear plugs if that close next time) There are some really amazing race cars from the 60's and 70's etc.
see ya there

Yup, today was great! Thanks Jo, Ken, and everyone else involved!
Tomorrow should be great too - looking forward to it; I'll have to try to find the pits this time then!
Anyone considering going - it's definately well worth it!
See ya there!

Fantastic photos there... really good action shots.

I have just got back from silverstone after two great days. I had so much fun on the retrorun though the Northamptonshire countryside yesterday and 2 'parade' laps this morning of the silverstone circuit.. they were fast parade laps and my back end was well out of shape around Luffield, and my brakes were smoking when I finished (pointed out by a chap in a Lambo!)

A great event, well organised as usual. My sincere thanks to The Mr2 Mk1 club for letting me be a part of it.
