Moving to the UK in a couple weeks.

Currently in sunny Florida and moving to Lakenheath RAF in a few weeks. I guess you can consider me a MKI nut as I have owned four of them. My curent car is a 88NA converted to a SC. I have spent a great deal of time/effort on this car and hate to give it up, but shipping it is out of the question.
88GZE engine with C52 trans/Illegal Garage clutch/NST 180mm crank pulley/GruntBox/MKII seats/H&T master cylinder brace/completely rebuilt brakes with stainless braided lines/full urethane suspension bushings/Eibach springs/tokico struts/16x7"SSW wheels/Buddy Club front lip/89 LED rear wing/H&T rear sway bar with retro tabs for struts... the list goes on. Luckily I found a buyer who appreciates MKis as much as I do and is coming next week to pick up the car.
I am looking forward to living in England and buying another MKI. The next one will get a 3SGTE swap to cure my hunger for power. Cheers Paul

i would be saying tho, that many of the uk mk1s are prone to rust (not sure how bad it is in florida, as you havent heard of rain, lol).....

so many would require this sorting out, or you could get lucky and have one already fixed, its a common problem over here on the mk1s.

if you cant do a 3sgte transplant by yourself, theres a guy on here thats converted a couple of mk1s to the turbo engine.

Normally we see plenty of rain here, just not much lately.
I know Paul Woods, I have traded with him a few times. His work is phenomenal, when I have the funds I will contract him to perform the conversion. I have been searching around the net for MKIs in the UK. Seems like there a few nice ones for sale.
Perhaps I will just import a JDM SC car, importing cars into the UK is much easier than in the states.

Don't know where Lakenheath RAF actually is, but hope you can make some meets over here, would be good to get the American perspective on some of the cars we have here. Am sure that even without an MR2 you'll be welcome - and it will give that nudge to go and get one!

Lakenheath is East Anglia, I used to go to parties with the Mildenhall boys many moons ago.

The UK has many downs, but from your POV it'll be better than the USA car wise - all those lovely modded imports we can get that you can't, you'll enjoy it here.

Hope the move goes ok, and you'll have plenty of friends being a Mk1 enthusiast, you have just missed the biggest show of the year last weekend, there were over 70 Mk1 Mr2s all in the same arena, loads of na's a handfull of superchargers, a handfull of Turbo converted Mk1.5s and a V6's one too!

Thanks for the welcome. I am a military man and only have a few years left before retirement. I want to spend my last few years traveling on the govt's dime. I also want my boys to see a little bit of the world, perhaps it will broaden their perpectives.

A couple months of 95F temps and 90% humidity can get to you. Add it to years of this and it gets really old. Luckily I have a fantastic AC unit for the house.
I can always come back to Fla. The UK is just a long vacation for me. After that I may head to Okinawa. I had an assignment to Iceland that was cancelled due to base closure. I was truly looking forward to going there. The people are great and the landscapes are fantastic.

i see where your coming from with the weather, if you live there you get used to it. you do right to travel mate, go for it
