Its caused by running too much timing advance on too poor fuel.

Rev1 and 2s need Super unleaded really and the timing should be 10 deg BTDC - link T1 and TE1 on the diagnostics connector and check with a strobe gun at the bottom of the timing belt.

It could always just be something loose though!

The best way I can describe det is that it sounds like someone tapping at your engine block with the end of a spanner - a metallic 'tinking' noise. You usually get it when the engine is at peak torque - ie high boost, mid-rev range.

Its bad as if you get too much you can:
  • Damage the ringlands on the piston
  • Cause overheating in the piston, causing stuff to melt

Either is Very Bad !

I get a few "tink" noises when I turn off the engine. Is this normal?

yeah thats the sounds i was hearing, but i mostly hear it when driving slow like pulling up and stopping. it smells like the fueling is way out and its misfiring. so hoping thats the cause :?
