Which oil to bed in bearings??

Post by Big G »

Finally after months of waiting I have the parts I ordered for my MR2 \:D/

On all the cars I've built I've always used mineral oil to wear in new bearings but I always ask owners sites for their opinnion on which oil is best as car specific is pretty priceless

Who would you all reccomend and at what visocity for wearing them in???

What visocity would you suggest to run with normally? and would you use fully or part synthetic??

Cheers in advance =D>

Ive always used Comma running in oil.. costs about £12 for 5 litres. Its specificaly designed to allow bearings and rings to bed in. Its also suitable for tubo charged engines which is one of the main reasons I chose it.

Im not 100% convinced that mineral oil is good for turbos... but thats just my thoughts. and after running my engine in with the Comma oil its fine.

As its onyl bearings you are running you might be able to get away with using a good quality semi synth oil and keeping the engine rpm's below 3500.

Mineral oils have been guessed as causes for excess wear on tubby seals but the best for bedding in bearings and if you keep the car below 3k and don't initiate the turbo you should be fine :D

cheers buddy
