SC Auto to Manual gearbox swap

Post by MarcsMR2 »

Hi, I'm cosidering swapping the auto box on my SC for a manual. Has anyone done this and how big a job is it? (been quoted £1000 + parts to do it)

Cheers

1k plus parts thats steep, easiest route would be with a donor car, but very doubtful you would get a manual sc donor so an na would seem the only option, I'm sure it has been done but I doubt theres a grands worth of work there :?

Best bet is like Kevin said... buy a UK donor car and swop everything over.

There are so many individual bits you'd need that this is far and away the best way of doing it.

I`d have thought that a large hurdle would be the ECU. Normally auto ECU`s are different to their manual counterparts. Which would mean finding an SC manual ECU. I`m not really sure about MR2`s so maybe someone else could confirm.

You can run an auto ecu on a manual car.. its not an issue. I have a friend who converted his auto to manual, without problems with ECUs.

Just by chance

Post by MarcsMR2 »

Just by chance next to my SC is a NA with a little rust and a dent at the front that I could use as a donor. Was hoping to repair it but looks like I'll be stripping it... it's my baby! :(

auto to manual

Post by MarcsMR2 »

Guess so....are they different to the SC Manual?

Anyone suggest a garage for the swap? Near Bristol would be great!

PS how do I get a pic on the left side of these post?

They are totally different from the SC manual. The SC box is nearly twice the size.

But don't worry the NA box can handle the power fine... its typically overengineeered. The SC box is good for 350bhp... so its well over the top anyway and shares internals with the rev1 tubby.

mods

Post by MarcsMR2 »

not yet but will be heading that way once it's a Manual.

Have a look at my profile for the existing mods

To follow...

Intercooler
HKS Cams (272s)and pulleys I have ready to fit
ECU
Clutch/flywheel upgrade
4-1 Manifold and a new exhaust system

all being well should be over 200 by the time these are done :)

Hmmn, you might get 200bhp from those but would be surprised if it was higher! What do you mean by 'ecu'?

Agree with Toni here.. don't reckon you would see over 200bhp.

its the intercooling that is the main issue when it comes to producing more power.

I'd say your current mods will give you 180-185bhp.

ECU?

Post by MarcsMR2 »

Heading for an Omex 600 ECU so it can be properly mapped.

may try a charge cooler and remove the AC (it doesnt work so wont be a great loss).
