Mk2 Supercharger Startup Video

Post by Goldy »

Yes its true.... its finally finished... The uk's first (to my knowlege) Mk2 supercharger is now complete and running. Got the tensioner in and the timing sorted at about 7.30 this evening.

This project has been over a year in the making and its had its fair share of ups and downs. I would like to thank everyone who has offered advice, knowlege and support to me over this period, especially the guys at www.twobrutal.co.uk for putting up with my endless silly questions!

A big thanks goes out to Kris up in grimsby for fabricating the bracketry and most of the pipework. My dad for egging me on, and Mart G for giving my dad a passenger ride at anglesey demo'ing a mk1 supercharger

Have a look @ the vid, i'm well chuffed with the results. The car is a lot quicker, even with the timing knocked back! I'll be getting it dyno'd soon.

Please come see it @ jae & visit my website @ www.goldy.biz if you're intrested in a similar project.

Anyhows enough rambling the video is @

its 4meg so you may wish to right click and save as!

Seriously. Be worth getting it on a dyno or even going the next step with an ecu maybe??

Cheers for the comments,

Its quick, but smooth quick, not kick you in the back quick so you don't really feel it so much. Its deffo quicker than before though! Its so loud cos the throttle body is after the charger at the moment, i'd imagine the twincharger will be a bit more stealthy?

"The worlds most powerful FE lives" well theres a claim  Though the guys in the states are getting 200bhp out of the 5s-fe with turbo's slapped on!

Going to sort the timing out properly today, and make a bracket to stop the intercooler bumping the engine lid 8)

Well done for sticking with it after the hassles and the recent scares!

Are you still going to drive it at 110% at trackdays though?

Aaah feck! I won't be able to give you any beef about yours being slower than mine! :P It would be interesting to see how well mine would keep up. There's still a question mark over what power my car is actually producing, but likewise, same question mark over yours! You're a total engineering legend for pulling off a UK first!

Glad you like it matey, you simply have to get it into the tunnel under the runways! And when you do, give me a pm. Mine is having 'handling upgrades' done this week so next weekend perhaps!

Tunnels will have to be after JAE i'm afraid swiss as i'm goin on holiday! Going to get it on a rolling road asap as soon as I can get to one.

Not ever going to make another one of these kits. It was waaaay too much work, and is pretty much custom made for my engine. May sell eventually as the plan is to head towards v6 when i've got the cash... maybe even something special (v6 supercharger or turbo  )

The car still has a few teething problems... I've managed to blow one of the pipes off 3 times now, and the home-made gasket round the supercharger outlet has suffered the same fate. These will be ironed out, and hopefully with a bit of tweeking it'll be running 100% perfectly!

Simon! =D>

I'm seriously impressed that you have finally got it running. Well done! :D Like the TwoBrutal lot I like people who try something different.

What psi are you running? Are the internals standard? Did you have it RR tested prior to the mods?

Not sure of the exact psi as its in bar's now. But its running around 5-6 psi.

The internals are standard, the ignition has been retarded 2 degrees and its running on super unleaded at the mo.

When I get it rolling roaded i'll probably get one done without the supercharger connected and one done with it running for comparison.
