Plastic trim on rear edge of boot lid - Removal

Post by jem »

Has anyone removed the thin plastic trim on the rear edge of the boot lid? It just slides on, and I can see no reason why it's there.

(most of) the USA AW11's didn't have those eighter.

I guess it's for anti damage/rust purposes on the bootlidedge. It does look like there is something missing when removed I think. Mostly because the black line round the taillights misses a part then. ;)

Well it's off and now sitting in my airing cupboard incase I do decide to put it back on. I think the rear of the car looks cleaner without it.

I think it looks better on... it carries on the black at the same level as the top of the light cluster. Without it, it looks like there's something missing..

IMHO :)

Totally agree - one of the worst bits of trim on the mk1, nearly as bad as the funky chicken on the bumper, and the frunk lid(I mean sod style - lets poke fun at fiero, much cooler!!!) - over-embellishment seems to be a jap thing

The bit of trim is used to keep the line of the UK Spec rear lights, which obviously is not needed on the Jap or USA spec cars as they have different rear lights 8)

saying all this, I haven't noticed it missing on the SC...

Ditto, it just doesn't look right without it to my eyes. Looks too much like something has dropped off.

Each to their own but I'll be keeping mine in place.

I thought this but it doesn't really do that

sits a bit high therefore looks a bit of an afterthought, however with it off the UK lights do look a bit unfinished!! Time to get US spec lights I think.
