My car in Banzai

I was told last night that my car appeared in the latest edition of Banzai. In an article about Japfest at Castle Combe.

I haven't read the article, but my mate who read it said it didn't put me or the car in good light and was biased to a complete egotistical idiot on track.

Those who were at Castle Combe and saw the "incident" will know that no car-car contact was made and that it was infact the other car that caused it.

It really annoys me when publishers get the facts completely wrong. Or even more so make the whole thing up

this is exactly why i don't bother going to these mickey mouse track type events, they are badly run and most of the drivers are clueless, though its the inadequate briefings and laissez faire marshaling that are the problem.

He did have one major scare though involving an over-eager AW11 MR2 driver. With the H22a-powered Accord clearly being the quicker of the two cars, Julian dived up the inside of Quarry in what would've been a perfectly clean move, allowing the MR2 plenty of room to fall in behind. Unfortunately, the MR2 carried too much speed into the corner, lost the back end and began a slow motion spin, setting a course to T-bone the ATR
Having seen the MR2 lose it in the corner of his eye, Julian swerved even tighter to the inside of the bend, planted his foot on the throttle and just squeezed through the near non-existent gap. You couldn't have seperated the cars with a piece of paper: after returning to the Honda Revolutions club stand, Julian found a slight red scuff mark on his rear bumper - a mark so slight that it polished straight out. It doesn't get any closer.

I know, I used to be a member when I had a Prelude. Not very welcoming or informative. I have a few mates who are members and seem to get on well though.

I am tempted to write to the magazine, but don't know if I can be ar$ed as I (and many others, including the honda owner/driver) know exactly what happened. I want to get the magazine for the photos and write-up nonetheless.

The magazine will also be biased towards the Honda owner as his car was previously featured in it.

It's not every day ones car gets a mention in a magazine allbeit for the wrong reasons and written incorrectly - another reason why I don't give a t0$$ about magazine coverage.

That is total rubbish, I've been a member of that club for years, ever since it was just 12 members or so. It is one of the best car clubs out there.

Obviously, it is pretty big now (much more so than IMOC-UK) and very professionally run by the Admin team - the Mag is great - but this size does mean there are inevtiably going to be a few rhubarbs amongst the membership.

FWIW I don't know Julian and as has been said, diving up the inside of a corner on a track day like that is shockingly bad etiquette and would get you black flagged at a decent event. It would also get you a bollocking from the club admin and membership if you did it at a Honda Revolutions trackday - their attitude is no passing until invited to do so.

I'd write a letter to the mag and put the record straight if I were you. It is not in the magazine's interest to be so partisan and you'd think they would understand the rules of trackdays better TBH.

Mind you CC Action Day type event are notorious for this sort of behaviour and spineless marshalling.

Diving up the inside of a rear wheel drive car when you have no idea of the driver's ability? (That's not a comment on your driving abilities Garrick) That's not exactly the most intelligent move on the planet.

Personally I'd let it go, its harsh and the article is untrue. I doubt they'd change it or print a retraction because it'll be your word against theirs.

I'd focus your energy elsewhere.

In my opinion it's probably best to take a deep breath and then forget the whole thing, otherwise your reply will then generate another response then it snow balls and life realy is too short. Just accept there are nobs about and avoid them when you can

We very nearly did - shortly after finishing the session. He mistakenly stopped our car and had a go at us for holding up traffic when it was another red 1b a couple of cars in front of us holding him up.
I told him where to get off.

I noticed in my rear view mirror the driver and passenger following a few cars behind back to our pitch. I think they were looking for a fight judging by their actions and verbal abuse when they stopped us.

This was a totally seperate "incident" off the track that didn't actually involve our car

Malcolm, I probably won't persue the article as it's a waist of time. Last time I persued a magazine (J-TUNER, not to mention names ) for publishing details they weren't allowed/meant to, I was promissed a free years subscription as "compensation" in order for me not to take legal action. The subscription never happened in the end. Needless to say if I persued legal action against them at the time, they probably wouldn't be publishing today. But that sort of thing is not in my nature.
