People doing this should note the kit is only the start - it will take a heck of a lot of workshop time to fit it, and then you'll need new wheels with a different offset to cope with the widened arches/track.

Only three official cars in the UK, £10K for one is an underestimate.

As a matter of interest I have the official TRD documentation listing the peices of kit, dimensions and change in track made on a standard MR2 - very interesting!! Not a job to be undertaken lightly IMHO.

I'd say about 7K is right for replica kit to fit and then get right and sprayed. To be honest there starting to get a bit common now. There's not many decent ones about but the amount of dodgy ones tends to take the edge off the decent ones. I've seen two right sh!tters near me, well dodgy kit fitment, bit like James' was.

Oh and on top of the 7K factor in about 2-2.5K for some decent Jap wheels with the correct offset. Mine were around 1500 plus tyres on top!

having seen the kit in the flesh i would suggest spending as little money on the kit as possible and paying someone very skilled to fit it, £5000 - £700 = £4300 i dont think it likely a skilled man is gonna charge £4300 to fit a body kit.

Our problems started by having to remove all the body panels to refit them so the job for us was harder than just having to cut and shut fresh kit, it still didnt take any longer than 2 weeks for the right man.

The trd kit and the word common dont mix, we could just slate the 2 in general by saying there are too many of them, i could imagine being upset if i had a factory trd then every tom dick and harry had a copy but that just isnt the case, its a true classic in every sense.

I know a skilled man that can do it for much much less, the work on my car was a tester for a offering we can make with regard to big body and paint work.

We can do all the body work and paint the car in painting shop then bake it in a body shop oven, doing my car first under much tougher conditions was to test the man, i need no more confirmation that this guy is the bees knees =D>

to warrant us doing this kind of job it needs to be an order or £2k or more as i have to fly this man in under contract.

Think of every euro box, standard motor & modified pieces of @#!? that cruise around the streets. Mr2's as i'm sure that everyone on this site would agree are just delicious. The TRD kit is denfinetly going to stand out for good reasons, so it's not going to be disrepecting the orginal. I wouldn't to drive the orginal one, i would just sit beautifully in a garage to be drolled over. I'm going to get some advice and quotes from a ppl about how much it is going to be to fit. Could some1 please tell me if replikit sell the spacers?

P.S you've all been great with the advice =D>

I weren't trying to slate TRD's James remember i've got one

My spray job was 3.5k for a factory colour and that was on a car with the kit pre-fitted.

My brother is a model maker by trade and works heavily in fibreglass and he helped me fit the kit with advise from the bodyshop along the way. It took the two of us working flat out weekends, evenings and days off over 2 months to fit the kit. I estimate over 200hours from us alone. Mind you that involved partial removal of the old steel rear wings, welding up with plates to remove the arches and then bonding the original arches over the top and creating a new inner skin between the two.

It was then in the bodyshop for over 100hours, after we had fitted and smoothed the kit being flatted and sprayed!

I would say if anyone can fit one of these kits for under 5k including paint its a bargain. And worthy of a =D>

200hours at 20 an hour is 4000 plus your paint on top which will be at least 50/l plus hardners lacquers primers poly-reface etc.

I might be wrong but I didn't think you would be able to bake this kit? Baking after fitment could cause subsidence issues as well as microblister from the gases escaping from the fibre glass resin?

I know you one for good prices though James. Anyway don't make it toooo cheap or everyone will want one!
