Toyota Parts Catalogue Errors - Sticker Colours

Post by jrleech »

Realised yesterday that all the side stripes I bought from Toyota are the wrong colour....

Part catalogue says 'Dark Mlue M' 8G2

when it should say 'Light Blue M' 8G2

visa versa the stickers for the Dark Blue car are marked up as 'Light Blue M' 8E3 when they should be 'Dark Blue M' 8E3.

As I didn't have the paint code to hand when I ordered, I went of the colour description, which was wrong, so I've now got a full set of silver stripes that are all but invisible on a Helios Blue car... mine should be black #-o

To make matters worse, Toyota no longer have the -14 part number ones I need, so I'm going to have to have non-standard stripes and even worse, a non standard rear eagle :(

So, when ordering anything that's colour dependant from Toyota, use the paint code and not the description.

Cheers,
Jon

John, why not try and get a sticker type manufacturer to copy the ones you got into non-avaible colours?

Quite right :)

I've got no choice but to get some made up to my colour now, the bodyshop is sorting it with a contact of his.

No interest in the bumper bars/brackets, think I'll stick them on Ebay individually and sell them for more than they cost new ;)

john, we soon should be able to do any stickers in any colours. at least thats what our sticker man is telling us.he has just invested in some super high tech machinery. so complete sets should be no problem. they will be EXACT copies !! watch this space.
Its becoming a problem for a lot of us real sticklers for the original look. my supercharger ones have just come back as unobtainable  if you get a non original one save the old one and send it to me for the colour match. i will get one made and see if he is as good as his word. you can then judge.
everyone else please dont ask just yet we are not yet up and running with this.
just had a bit of a result with the insurance on the supercharger so the ashes are stirring ,the pheonix may fly again [-o<

@ JRleech/Jon:

I might know someone that's interested in some of you wrongly decal set, I'll check to see if the codes are the same, your now selling a set of "light blue met. 8E3" right?

The partsystem isn't wrong by the way: it says the colour of the decals and the paintcode of the car they belong to.

So "light blue met. 8E3" is a set of decals in the colour light blue met. which is for a car with the colourcode 8E3 which would be dark blue met. ;)

Let me know how you get on with this, Jon. I will be getting that rust on the rear arch sorted soon so no doubt I will need some replacement stripes for it :? .

Hope all goes well with yours.

Cheers

So it's giving the colour of the sticker then the paint code for the car.... doesn't indicate that in any way though!!

I've already asked the bodyshop to get his contact to make up the stripes, I'm sure they'll be a good match (they're only stripes!).

I've already had someone PM me about the silver stripes that I won't be needing, I've yet to work out a price though....

I guess the stripes are the easiest to get copies of, it's the TOYOTA, TOYOTA MR2, Twin Cam 16 and the rear eagle that are hard to match. The rear eagle is quite intricate and now discontinued in most colours.

Been 6 weeks that my car's been at the bodyshop.... really want it back now.....

It is like i said: colour of the decals, colourcode of the car. Check it with my colour: 2S8 (sherwood toning) non of those coloured AW11's is dark green over red (but the decals are green and red stripes ;)

None of the decals are hard to copy due to size/form, well maybe the bird of the 87+ models is (smaller than the -86) But the colour is....

99,9% of the stickerstores work with pre-fab stickerfoil. So the right colour has to be present as a pre-fab foil.

For white, black and silver that's not a problem, but when you need a beige metallic, dark green metallic of light blue metallic it's almost inpossible to get it to match perfectly. (this is the problem I came across when restoring mine)
