Had to sell the Scooby for financial reasons, now I own £1,000 worth of Mk1.

I've done 2 MR2 Turbo's and 2 Impreza's now, even if I had the money I would choose something different to be honest, probably an Elise or S2000 in the £9-13k band.

You would certainly not beat this Scoob with your 250bhp, there's just no way. I have owned both, the Scoob is just faster. MR2 wheelspins, the Scoob does a full throttle dump clutch launch and hits 60 in around 4.4. 100 comes round in 11.8, 1/4 in 12.8 top speed's 158 genuine. Sorry, but you wouldn't make those times with a 250bhp MR2, not without slicks, light internals, 4 wheel drive, a boxer engine...

A good friend has owned both the uk classic shape turbo, an 03 plate sti (262bhp), and a prodrive STi (305) bhp.With my car at std boost (242bhp), after 100mph I pulled past, then when they got their 305 bhp car, I had upped the boost (280bhp), and I stayed with the car, slightly gaining 60-70, but nothing in it up to double figures.
While I went travelling, they had use of my car for 9 months, and said their scooby (the 262 one) felt a bit faster, but I always maintained it just fwelt faster due to the way the boost kicked in more aggressively on the scoob, whereas the tubby pulled more consistantly through the range.
At neither point did I 'thrash' them/ leave them standing, but I was faster every time, and with two Evo V (280bhp), its been completely equal into double figures.
As for a scooby with a 12.8 1/4 mile..... it'll need over 300 bhp, and need to be a classic shape RA. Even the Uk 305bhp prodrive has 1/4 mile of 13.2 (manufacturers...).

LOL something I had thought of numerous times in this thread. Wonder if I did a search on Scoobynet if I'd find lots of Scooby owners saying that Evo's and MR2s were better

It doesn't need over 300bhp since the internals are lightened. It makes a huge difference to the 0-100, like I said bringing it down under 12 secs.

The UK305bhp you speak of does NOT have lightweight internals and weighs WELL over 1400kgs while the classic is around 1260. It's just weight, rotating mass and gearing.

Ok, so you agree it would have to be the type RA, all i'm saying is a UK WRX, or STi wouldn't be quicker than a standard rev3 turbo from my (many) miles in both cars. However, you refer to 'lightened internals'? Crank perhaps...flywheels...anything else?

Yeah, that was my argument too. Can't comment about lightened internals. Could do exactly the same with the mr2 lol flywheel, pulleys, crank balanced etc. etc.

it really does, certainly on a scooby the difference is night and day. the engine doesn't rev, it barks. Scooby's have particularly heavy flywheels and are really suited to lighter ones.

Like I said, give me the rev limiter on an Evo5 RS and I may still take issue with your top speed since I have all the gear ratios in cartest, I just can't find the rev limit. Tell me the model you have. Cars are not Voodoo magic, the are a product of their components. We can find out what gear ratio's final drive and tyre size you have, couple that to the rev limit and actually work out the top speed theoretically.

ok some results I think... Evo V RS gear ratios are:

1. 2.88
2. 1.95
3. 1.44
4. 1.11
5. 0.82

the shortest final drive I have found for them is 4.88:1

Tyre size for the RS was 205x60x15.

With a rev limit of 7500rpm (found on a couple of separate google searches) the top speed at rev limiter is 141mph.

The RS Model hasn't got ABS or AYC and the car is between 70kg and 100kg lighter [dependant on model - see Technical Specification] due to lighter panels and lightweight window glass. Although weight could be reduced further on the RS model by opting for the thinner gauge body, or by asking for a car minus the aerodynamic appendages.

There are a few more technical differences. These are:

Option of twin-plate clutch [from the 1996 Evolution IV]
TD05HRA-16G6-10.5T titanium turbocharger was employed on the Evolution VI onwards
RS has closer gearing for better acceleration. But top speed is between 125mph and 150mph depending on model.
RS's 0-60 is a fraction faster than the GSR times
The RS also has a quicker steering rack, 2.1 max turns [2.3 on the GSR]
Option of either a normal open front diff or a helical gear Limited Slip Diff ['worm gear' type]
Rear differential is a mechanical LSD

There are a few cosmetic differences also. These are:

The RS has black door handles and wing mirrors
The RS has no rear wash wiper
The RS has no front fog lamps**
In some cases the wheels are 15" steels [it was option to have GSR wheels]
The RS has no Climate Control, electric windows or mirrors; the seats are slightly different
The RS is available in Scotia White only
Smaller leather Momo steering wheel [365mm] with no airbag
No central locking and no radio-type keyless entry system

firstly you could have written all that yourself
secondly there are no ratio's in there, gear or final drive, and no mention of the car's rev limit.

I still maintain, 125mph gear top speed in 5th is ludicrous.

Provide the gear ratio's and final drive or this conversation is pointless. I have done my best to get the data online but can't find anything shorter gearing than what I have demonstrated above.

My opinion is that your car had some kind of speed limiting device fitted since you say 130mph on the speed, we must allow a speedo error of around 7% so the *actual* speed that you are claiming your car did was 120mph. That I find too unbelievable. So come on, break out the gear ratio's and final drive, I am not being argumentative, but repeatedly writing "125mph" without substantiating it is convincing no-one.
