Racing stateside

Post by EarL »

On hols in the staes at the mo in Florida, and was on the way back from Clearwater beach in our rental Ford F350 people carrier when a Ford Mustang GT Bullit limited edition and a heavily modded G35 Skyline came past.

They pulled up next to each other at around 35 mph and were waving fingers and pointing at each other (it all seemed light hearted), when the Mustang lit up the rear tyres and went for it. Nothing in front of us for miles... The sound was utterly awesome! I love my 2, but the sound of this big V8 being given the berries was mind blowing. :o

The G35 went for it too a split second after the muzzie, catching it easily and passing it at gawd knows what speed. They slowed down and we caught them up a couple of miles down the interstate. Both guys were laughing and joking and tossing the bird back and forth. Amazing.

Got to love it out here...

Not seen any MkII MR2's yet though :(

What amazes me about florida is how they all seem to stick to the speed limits when not racing.

You've got to be kidding - you need to get out more

The weather's crap - sticky and cloudy a lot of the time (not that sunny) and then there's the hurricanes and rain that hit every year without fail.

The scenery is dull (apart from the Everglades) - it's as flat as a pancake and featureless.

Orlando is a hideous theme park of a place.

Miami is crime-infested and tacky.

It's the worst place in America by far. There are much nicer and more impresive states in America.

Gotta agree with Lauren..Canada is amazing. Having been to Toronto 7 times in the last 5 years or so, the people there are so friendly, no matter what colour, creed, culture etc. Then theres the scenery. Highly recommend the train across north America from Toronto to Vancouver! The scenery is simply stunning. Riding through the valleys of the Rockies is an experience to behold. Then theres Niagara Falls...really, you have to see it to believe it.

I think its come second over the last few years in the UN's list of "best places to live"!

nah you can't beat california, great roads (highway 1 down the coast) plus NOBODY sticks to the speed limit on the freeway and the majority of people are really friendly...and the weather is pretty good too.

either place would do for me. and what you on about the weathers sticky and crap  its tons better than this constant rain and sweaty heat when we do get it over here. plus been a big theme park, thats a good thing. suppose there are a lot of over 40's on this forum.

Think you need to get out more honey. Tbh though theme parks have there place, i much prefer road trips where i get to see the real country not some 'themed' version. I did a road trip across canada and the mid-west a few years back, basically:

Toronto> Ottawa > Montreal > Quebec > New Brunswick > PEI > Nova Scotia > Maine > Boston > NY > Penna > Maryland > Indiana > Chicago (my dad lived in chicago at the time).

Great fun and much more my thing. Florida may be great in november when the temperature is about right but its way too hot through the summer months.

I've been to florida and did some of the theme parks, yes it was fun enough but i prefer seeing real stuff like the 3 gorges (Yangtze river) Niagara (ruined though by the tacky tourism.

I want to go back and do route 66 someday, but honestly give me Canada anyday. Stunning country, the people aren't american and the attitudes have far more in common with the brits and they don't think Canada is the world. ;)

Have to agree with Lauren on this one. The theme park thing has been done to death in Florida, but the place is still great if you want tome decent beach action. Clearwater or Daytona are great.

But if I had a the choice of Canada or the states, I'd choose Canada every time. different class of people there. Very friendly and not so loud.

The States is still a great place for hols though

Yep i'll bet its great for beaches, but i'm not a beach holiday type, prefer to be going somewhere or doing something, preferably that involves 4 wheels.

Get away from the geekarama that is Florida and explore the western states of America and you will be amazed. I would go as far as saying that states like California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Colorado etc have some of the most unique and spectacular scenery anywhere in the world. Just a shame there are so many Americans!

I love the US

I was in Miami and i think the scenery there is the best in the world!!!
My favorite city in the world is Miami without a doubt!

I love it crime infested is a bit extreme! you been watching too much scarface! :D

Nevada i like also, Vegas is good, but its one of those place you cant live, its really just a tourist place, although most residents are moving out of California into Nevada due to the taxes.

I have lived in the US, lived in Oaklahomo, Tampa, Atlanta, and Newyork.
Florida does it for me everytime!

Back to topic. I've a few friends in florida. Always catch up when I get there. Great people.

They took me to some street race. They raced for "pinks" (ownership of vehicle) and stuff!

One guy in a civic raced an integra and lost. Got all arsey cos it wasnt the owner of the integra driving! Lets say he had to fork up the $600 or it would have got nasty!
