Thanks Steve, for getting this one off the ground and organising everything. It all went like clockwork. Also Jo for her normal efficiency. We had a good turn out considering the weather forecast.

Yep, thanks peeps, had a really good day. Was quite content with not driving on track though, I think some people thought it was a race.

We got Phil on his way in the end after dismantling most of his car ! It was the fuel pump/pump wiring. Thanks also to Paul Woods for his expert help diagnosing the problem. Phil you owe Paul a beer at JAE, hope you made it home ok .

Well done people! =D> I thought the chances of getting Philip’s car going again was one in a million. The wiring is a right rats nest, I hope he gets it sorted out. It ain’t the first time that car has broken down at an event. And as for Paul Woods, is there anything he doesn’t know about the Mk1. The bloke’s a walking encyclopedia!

Yes, our twin gazebos decided they wanted to be a giant kite . They took off and headed straight towards an Evo! Anyway they are bu88ered now and went in the dustbin.

My second spin caused by a black Honda cutting in on the inside of a corner forcing me to take the wrong line and then nearly spinning into him wasn't fun.

Yep, that guy was a total ar$e !

Jo also gave me a brown trouser moment when she spun the car and went farming on the corn field in the middle of the track

Got to say I found it hilarious . I was passengering with Spudgun and we were a few seconds behind. It was the first lap and as we came into the chicane I could see Farmer Jo and Garrick in the cornfield doing an impression of a combine harvester!

Am not surprised about the comments regarding quality of driving at Japfest

I found myself stuck behind a skyline for the first 3 laps, trouble was he was going slowly through the corners with no attempt at taking the right line, and then i couldnt overtake him on the straights as he was gone, slowing down just in time to spoil the next corner... I'd do another track time session there but only for fun. To try and get some decent laps in I might go for a test day or something. Glad to hear the phil got his car going again. Not a very nice experience seeing him come shooting across at me, esp as I ended up on the wrong side of the track for the esses, and spun it.. doh!

This is exactly why i'd never go out on a day at crapfest. Its just not worth it, way, way too frustrating. This reminds me very much of the old CCC days which were an accident waiting to happen. The trouble is this is a lot of peoples first experience of going on track and tbh i'm not surprised if they are put off for life. A properly organised day is nothing like this.

Looking at the picture again, this is the same car/driver/passenger that falsely accused me of holding them up a couple of laps later.
They were waiting just past the "Sin Bin" when we left the track at the end of the session and were looking for the red MK1 that held them up.
I naturally told them to sod off which only made matters worse and they followed the convoy of cars back to the pitch. I think they may have wanted to try beat me/us up

Saying that, did anyone else see the bloke who looked like he had his face smashed up in a fight? He walked past us whilst we were queing to go out on the second session. I can't help but wonder if the driver of this Honda had something to do with that?

However, I've no guarantee that some other hand jockey on the track won't make that decision for me.

Best way to get started in track days is to go along to an event and try to blag some passenger laps - pretty much no risk, and you get to see what it's like.
Has to be said that japfest looks like it had far too many people running completely out of skill ruining it for everyone else

Nooooo mate...

Properly organised track days are the way to go. This way you have an entire day to learn the track starting off slowly and then progressing as the day goes on. The marshals with decent companies like Book-a-Track will be on someones case if they are driving beyond their capabilities and/or breaking the rules.

On a day like Japfest, most people will only book 1 or 2 sessions and unfortunately a lot of the newbies to track days don't know how to treat it so they drive as if it's a race and push things too much too early more often than none this means collecting a tyre wall rather than another car. The Marshals appeared to not give a to$$ either and bad drivers weren't cautioned.

In terms of track standards Japfest ought to be called 'Muppetfest' because the standard of driving is just dreadful. I have done loads of trackdays, but i wouldn't even consider going out on track at an event like this. Properly organised days are a world apart and the risk of car to car contact is negligible. In working on what must be 200+ trackdays i've seen car to car contact twice.

Come on a properly organised day and see the difference for yourself.
