Japfest

Post by crazylegs »

Thanks Steve, for getting this one off the ground and organising everything. It all went like clockwork. Also Jo for her normal efficiency. We had a good turn out considering the weather forecast. At least the rain held off. Remember last year?
We got Phil on his way in the end after dismantling most of his car ! It was the fuel pump/pump wiring. Thanks also to Paul Woods for his expert help diagnosing the problem. Phil you owe Paul a beer at JAE, hope you made it home ok .

Phil should be on his way back home now.....hopefully under its own power & not on the back of an AA lorry  Woodsy your a star mate, thanks as always for the advice. hope everyone who attended got home safely, cheers, Jinxy

Yep, thanks to Steve and anyone else involved, and to Gar... System G for lending his spanners!
The track time was awesome, I hope I didn't cut it too fine overtaking the chap with the green MR2 callenge car  (novice error).
My brakes cooked after the first lap so now I've got a set of Pagid pads on order, along with new fluid and braded hoses should sort em out for next time
Anyways cheers again, look forward to meeting more of you at future meet ups!

Thanks for the positive comments chaps. Thanks to eveyone who came along as well, it wouldn't have been much of a event with out your effort.
Everyone who said they would turn up did so, so you can't get much better than that.
Thanks goes to Jo for bringing the gazebos on a one way trip and for doing most of the setting up.
Blimey! Phillips cars was more serious than we though then! When we left every one thought he had just spun it, but it seems there was a bit more to it than that then. Well done you chaps for getting him going again then. I'mb grateful for that and I'm sure he is as well.
I will try and get some video uploaded later on for you all to have a look at.

All the best

Thanks for organising it all Steve. It was a good day.

I doubt very much I'll ever go on track at Japfest again. My second spin caused by a black Honda cutting in on the inside of a corner forcing me to take the wrong line and then nearly spinning into him wasn't fun. And then the other black Honda owner inaccurately accusing me of not letting him pass and then getting all agressive wasn't my sense of fun either.

I'll deffo do the track on a properly organised track day, but not like this again.

Jo also gave me a brown trouser moment when she spun the car and went farming on the corn field in the middle of the track

Note to self:- Always fit the track wheels with decent tyres

I am glad Phil got home OK. Sorry we couldn't wait around and help much more - primarily the dog and secondly too many cooks etc... Besides Kev, Tony & mate seemed to have it all pretty much sorted 8)

See you guys at the next Japfest - just not on track :)

Well im assuming he actually got home ok, still not heard from him yet  or weather he appreciated the effort it took to get him roadworthy, which was about 2 hours after you guys departed for a long journey home,  , thanks for the use of the multimeter Garrick, without it i dont think we stood a chance & thanks Jo for the well needed coffee & cake....... cant work on an empty stomache you know !!  , Jinxy

Jo got a reply text from phil saying he got home, but his text didn't make much sense. I am assuming he still needs to get the spagetti sorted out.

ditto, the tyres the car came with isnt the fastest/or safest option, im also thinking maybe check the tyre pressures too, i havent checked mine since i got the car.

TDFs prove just too unpredicatable then? - yes, although wasting some no-brand tyres is cheap, sometimes it works out just more expensive that some more predicatable (and still pretty cheap) A539s..

Actually I thought you pulled over, but as I went past, on the kink in the back straight, I was in a 4-wheel drift! so was a bit concerned about potentially becoming quite unpopular :eye:

Am not surprised about the comments regarding quality of driving at Japfest, the only time I nearly got wiped out on track was a stupid prat cutting me up in the 'esses' there (and Fazza, a few years ago now!) Haven't tracked there since for the same reason!!

We weren't running the "Ditch Finders" we had on for the Brunters day. We had my new 15" wheels with the tyres that came fitted - Antyre I think they're called. After Jo's spin and farming session we've decided to call them "Field Finders"

I would be interested in trying the A539's, but so far the best experience I've had is the BF Goodrich I have on my stock rims.

Track Pic

Thanks to everyone who organised the event - very enjoyable.

The only person who put a slight dampener on it was the guy in the black honda who was cutting everyone up on the circuit.
See the pic below (I'm the red MK1 leading the bunch out of the corner - just about to be swamped and past by everyone  )

I was the red 1a shown to be under-taken by the black honda in the photo. I spun at that corner the two laps after that photo was taken whilst being pushed into the wrong line again - also by a black Honda (don't know if it was the same one)
