Driving back to work on a sunday night about 1am, doing over 70 on the M40 in the fast lane, i hit something, i dont know what it was, maybe a bit of tyre tread or a stone. It was quite big because it took three chunks out of the front bumper, a good 8 inches up, and took a lot of the bottom lip too, as i went over it the front of the car jumped, and it hit the passenger side skirt in front of the rear wheel, then the back jumped, both wheels off the ground. very very scary, and very lucky to stay on the road. would have been a hell of an accident!!! sorry if this is a bit boring but i dont tend to get upto much!!!!
Cheers Mike
Didnt even see it mate, i didnt find it borin either, certainly livened up my journey, do it every week so only down side was the damage, and not havin spare underwear in the car with me!!!!!
I recall something similar happening to me a couple of years back.
Whilst driving on the motorway at night in lane three at 70-80ish I glimpsed only for a split second, some debris of some sort in the road right in front of me.
With a loud 'Bossschackkkg' kind of noise the 106 Gti I was in at the time ran straight over it with the majority being tossed aside by the front wheels.
Wondering WTF? I glanced in my rear view mirror to see I'd run over a rear bumper from an accident on the other side of the motorway that had just taken place!
I felt pretty shaken but also annoyed too, no doubt if the damage to my car had been mega money I'd of struggled to pursue an insurance claim from the driver of the car that had just lost it's bumper!
Have just hit a rock or something (half brick maybe) on a backroad near me, its dented the floor about five times and scuffed a load of underseal off, alloys seem OK, and the rattle on me rear susp. doesn't seem to have got any worse.
Will have to get it lifted up to make sure nothing else is damaged.
had the same happen in my work van, doing 90ish guy in front goes over something, brick or wood or something heavy and it hits my bonnet, windscreen and a pillar!!! piereced a hole in the bonnet and huge dent lucky it took all the impact before screen.drivers side to!!!!!
I've had the same - car in front of me went over something, part of it flew up and chipped my windscreen, the rest went under my car and dented an alloy wheel
Funniest one I've heard of was when a mate was driving along a remote country lane late at night, in the pouring rain. He drove into a bag of cement in the middle of the road at about 30mph, which smashed in his front bumper ( Ford Scorpio - so the looks were probably improved ). He got out to inspect the damage, leaving the engine running, but when he shut the door the central locking triggered and locked him out of the car Fortunately he had his mobile in his pocket, but by the time the RAC arrived an hour later he was soaked through, and the car was steaming 'cos of the engine being left running with the heater blowing full blast
