That sounds dangerous to me. Petrol vapours are as dangerous (if not more so) as the liquid. I wouldn't do anything to the system that allows them to escape constantly.

i find the best thing to use to remove it is a set of pipe grips. don't know what other people's caps are like, but mine is just a flat face with knurled outer edge, there's no centre spine that i could get pliers on.

first time i did it, i ripped all the skin off one of my knuckles, left blood down side of car, d'oh! ](*,)

pipe grips rock! AKA patrol cap removers from now on whenever they get used for anythin else!

I to have grappled with the whooshing fuel cap, my jap import cap had been butchered (shortened) to fit the new smaller British nozzle so i fitted a Ford Focus one with the strap attachment (the fuel cap thread is world or euro fit i suspect) i still get the whoosh but the cap unscrews easily now and i no longer wonder where to put this 90,s style loose cap which is pants.

This has also happened to me too.....

However brute force worked eventually...just as I was about to give up

Never happened since as I don't tighten it beyond the clicks \:D/

you can't tighten it beyond the clicks its like a torque wrench.

Heh happened to me once, felt like a right numpty especially when cars starting queuing up behind me. Red-faced I drove home (just round the corner) to try and sort it with my toolkit, but the flippin thing came off easily by hand then anyway!

Makes me paranoid each time I stop to fill up!

Just to tell you why this happens now guys. There is lots of suction that pulls on the cap as the fuel runs out. Its like a vaccume. Hence if you tighten too much you will have a hard time taking off. When you open it you will hear the air rushing in.

Just would suggest you buy the TRD one its better and easier to open. \:D/

TRD cap is just a stock cap with a stick on cover

I've never had this problem in 6.5 years and I tighten to the clicks every time. Maybe it has something to do with the charcoal cannister. :-k

The vacuum line out of the top of the cannister is supposed to be attached to a thermostatic valve before going into the throttle housing, but mine is bypassed... maybe that helps?

I've had the same problem.

Never been so embarassed when filling up trying to get the cap off, and the guy behind shouted out "You alright mate - need a hand".

Embarassing not only for the fact the petrol station was busy, but also because there was a properly tasty lady filling up next to me who found it all very funny  ](*,)

Yean got the same problem sometimes.

Its only when im getting real low on Dinosaur juice though.

I usually use the 2 handed method, grit the teeth, and turn the body not the hands. :D

No,

The cap is different. The stock and chrome one are the same but TRD is a differnt cap.
