Aerial adaptor??

Post by chrispurvis100 »

Hi Peeps. :P I'm in the middle of fitting a Panasonnic head unit to my rev 3 tubby.
Its all up and running except for the aerial. The original aerial connector pin that went into the back of the toyota head unit, is to small in diameter to fit snuggly in my panasonnic unit.
I bought the right size connector from halfords today, cut the old connector off and I am about to fit and then crimp the new connector around the original aerial wire.
Any tips on what wire should go where?
I take it that the insulated wire goes into the pin but how much to I strip the wire by? Then do I just crimp the copper 'messy' aerial wires? I have tried it already but I cant get a signal??

Its been quite a while since I played with my stereo wiring.

Does your car have an antenae in the windscreen - if you look closley in the centre there may be 2 hairline wires running up in paralell with each other.

The only reason I ask is that if I recall rightly this is an AM ariel which was used by the OEM headunits to pick up traffic status in Japan, and again if my memory is correct this had a smaller adapter than the standard aerial lead which as far as i know is the standard size that fits 90% of car stereos. So basically you need to have a rumage around at the back of your stereo and see if you can find the other lead.

Than again I might be having some sort of delusion and sending you down the garden path.

Hope this helps.

No, you're completely correct, the stock stereo takes both aerials.

As said route around and you should find the other one there somewhere.
