Try A-Plan or Houghtons (Mk1Club scheme).

Kev, Do yourself a giant favour if you try Houghtons. Insist on talking to Ken Salmon himself. Don't talk to anyone else. I was given so much of a runaround I gave up and reinsured with A-Plan instead.

Then Ken got involved and it was all resolved immediately... But it was too late, I'd already moved my insurance policy to A-Plan. (Was also too late to get my car insured for IMOC Anglesey trackday - ended up having to take my Fiat Coupe 16vt "Italinail" instead - not at all impressed  )

Have you used the correct number? (i.e. go look in the a-plan section in premium members).

They insure our Modified SC's and we are/were under 25 at the time. Can't see why they'd have a problem with your Auto....

Are we too presume from this then that Houghtons are now insuring SC's again? I think there was a thread a few weeks back saying that they wouldnt give out new policies............

I need to get mine back on the road shortly, so its an interesting one for me........

i'm trying to get a decent quote for my sc at the moment - adrian flux dont' want to know, Norton (Heritage) aren't doing imports any more, Footman James quoted me £1,167 (hah!) but a broker at Keith Michaels thought he could get me a quote for about £700 fully comp, 2 years NCB and two accidents (one minor, one less so), so waiting to hear from him.

think i tried AON but no luck, but will also try Houghtons and speaking to Ken. will let you know how i get on...

car is now finished and in for MOT this friday - can't wait. Refinisher guy says i should bring my camera...

cheers

try houghtons, they gave me a great quote considering my 9 points and accidents. they only took 3 years into account as well. mind you its not come through yet.

That was incorrect info, they are are still insuring sc's but if you don't speak to Ken ,they seem to get it wrong!
You can talk to Ken,if your in the mk1 club,he will help you if he can,if your not in the club i'm sure he will try and get a good qoute!

I got mine from Carol Nash as a classic with a limited milage of 5k per year fully comp agreed value, no claims was not an issue as it was on a classic policy and it cost a little over £200.

steve i did phone houghtons, spoke to ken, great service, great quote, all very easy. ken even stayed late to get it sorted for me.
no other insurer would do that . most didnt even bother to keep their promises of "we will call you back ".
why cant people be straight these days? a simple sorry we cant cover you is fine . its the BS that gets me.

That's great news Kev,
Ken's always sorted me a good deal, the differance with him is he owns an sc too,so he knows what the car is.
Most of the other insurance companys have never heard of one!

Does anyone know if Ken still works at Houghtons? Im under 25, standard SC and some ridiculous insurers are saying they wont insure anyone under 30. What a joke.

£1600 the best so far.

Driving 6 years, no accidents or claims but no NCB as never held insurance for more than a year

Yes, Ken is part time. Phone up and ask for his working days/hours. Only deal with the organ grinder, not the monkeys.
Ken will do you a decent deal. Try limiting the mileage on the policy, and have a higer excess. i'm 25 and struggle as well

Last time I spoke to them they are (a few months back). But you have to be 25 for them to insure you with an SC (only 23 for an NA). But it's definitely still worth calling up and speaking to Ken as he can probably still get you a great deal.

Max, I'm not so sure on those age limits, I got a quote when I was 24 on my SC.
Rich, it helps if you are a Mr2Mk1 Club member, iirc they asked for my membership details.. Ken was able to confirm as he was dealing with membership at the time
